Question Chinese Shar Pei Anyone?

Just wondering if anyone has a Shar Pei or any experience of the breed?
I've always liked them but recently after seeing a puppy and a dog that boarded at work i am smitten!

I think the puppies are adorable but all of my experience with this particular breed was not good I know that it is owners that make there dogs bad but I also think you have to be very careful with this breed line. I have seen some very aggressive Sharpeis. One used to live next door to us and I couldnt let any of my dogs out unatteneded as it would bull dose under my neighbors chain link fence to try to kill them. They are very determined. My cousin had one that was very stubborn and snappy. They could not contain him with an underground fence system as he would just run right through it and he did not like anyone and had chased quite a few neighbors before they finally had to rehome him. I had a lady tell me at PetsMart that hers was nice and dog friendly and the next thing I knew he had bitten my dogs nose when he tried to greet him. The list goes on.

I am not saying that all of this breed is bad but I am saying that if you decided to get one then make sure you buy from a very reputable breeder that knows their lines and does health testing. Make sure you meet parents and grand parents if possible so you can see the temperment and also get references and maybe even speak to the vet of the parents

Also not that it means anything but the Chinese Sharpei is basically a Chinese Pitbull in a sense. They were bred to fight as our pits were. I believe they are nicknamed the Chinese fighting dog?

i don't fool with them dogs or puppies anymore!

A pretty blue puppy came into work and i had to check him in , so i was getting all types of kisses. Like 20mins after i was itching all over and my face turned red and i had to go home because turns out i'm allergic to the dog, i missed work for a week.

so far this is the only dog that has ever done that to me , the dr said alot of pepole are allergic to this breed and don't know it (like me )

Yea, Timone the guy we had at the kennels was not a socialable guy at all.
Fine with people just didn't like other dogs. The owners told us it was because he was attacked as a puppy and now trys to attack other dogs 'to get in 1st' so to speak.

I've joined a Shar-Pei forum to learn more about the breed and its sad they can suffer with so many health problems.

And yes they were originally bred for fighting and are the chinese equivilant to Pitbulls.

Yeah, they do need a firm hand. Most don't get it, which is why they do these things.

My aunt had that breed for a very long time. They were her babies. Both quite friendly towards pretty much everyone..at least they were whenever I was around them. I think they had to be put down for some reason though..I can't remember.
