Default Experiences with hip replacements?

My mother in law fell Monday night and broke her hip. She had surgery yesterday afternoon. Total hip replacement. I'm a nurse so I've taken care of these patients some (although I'm not experienced in orthopedics!) But after they leave the hospital, I don't know much of what to expect.

Anyone gone through this with a family member? I know she'll go to rehab, but for how long? She has Parkinsons, so I'm sure that's going to significantly slow down her recovery. She's 80.

If anyone could chime in with experiences, that would help me plan. We are going to take her Sheltie, Charlie, home with us this weekend. He's kind of a SPAZ (as most Shelties are), so I hope that goes smoothly.

My mother had a hip replacement last year. she was 79. it went great. i forgot how long she was in the hospital, then she went to the rehab. i brought minnie and tootsie to visit her every day in the rehab. it was great for them. they got so much attention and. they were puppies then and was good to socialize them . cheered my mom up alot. after she came home from the rehab her insurance payed for her to get a physical therapist, nurse, occupation therapist and a home health aid. they each came around two times a week.

hi, how is your mother in law?
My moms hip replacement was last year, July 17. i remember she got out of the rehab on Aug. 15. , cant remember how long she was in hospital and how long in rehab. She tried to stay as long as possible to get more care, but they encourage you to go home as soon as they think you can. i thinnk she was in the hospital for around 5 or 6 days.

awwww..... your mom looks so sweet. I am in Kansas City this weekend visiting my MIL. She's doing OK. She's a little confused which is a worry. She doesn't think she needs to go to rehab and thinks she can go straight home! I don't think so! Anyway... it looks like she will be going to the rehab place this weekend and then I don't know how long she'll be there. Probably several weeks at the minimum.
