Default Biden's Puppy Breeder Harassed

Fifteen minutes of fame turned into four months of bitter remorse for the Chester County woman who sold the Bidens their adorable little German shepherd puppy.

Linda Brown's been investigated, scorned and had her life threatened.

"I thought when Joe Biden bought a puppy from me, what an honor," Brown told the Daily Local News. "Out of millions of breeders in the country, in the world, he picked me."

That was December.

When the story got out, Brown faced backlash from pet lovers who thought the Bidens should have opted for a shelter over a breeder to find their new puppy.

PETA seized the moment as an opportunity to blame the killing of shelter animals on people who buy from breeders. The organization's TV commercial, "Buy One, Get One Killed" ran in Delaware after the Biden puppy story made headlines.

So... what you guys think?

I think it is insane the woman was threatened. I do think he should have found a rescue Shepard from a good organization... but the backlash was just out of line.

This is as far as it should have gone: http://blogs.browardpalmbeach.com/ju...escue_dogs.php

(Edit, apparently, the woman is believed to be yet another PA Mill.)

what?! That's crazy! The breeder sells them a puppy and then gets all that harassment? People are nuts. Who cares if he bought a puppy rather than went to a shelter. He has the right to choose where he gets his dog.

It has to do with setting the right image.... and these days, it is just bad publicity to ignore that when so many are put down for lack of room.

I just can't believe she had death threats. Just crazy wrong.

I just read the article and know where did it say she is a puppymill or her dogs are in poor condition. I think everyone has the right to choose where they get their pets. As long as she is a reputable breeder than I don't think this poor woman should be harrassed. I do think that Bidden being a high profile person maybe should have went to the humane society and got his dog there. He is a leader and maybe people will follow his lead and adopt at the humane society too. That's just my opinion and I know it kinda sounds like a double standard, but that's just how I feel. Sorry

I hate it that he bought from a puppy miller though instead of a reputable breeder. He could have done some educating if he would have bought from a breeder who CERF'd and OFA'd. He could have really done some good if he'd talked about buying from a breeder who does health/temperament testing and the difference between buying from a reputable breeder versus a backyard breeder or mill.

He should have done more research or rescued from a shelter, rather than supporting a puppymiller. But the breeder didn't deserve death threats. No one does, no matter how much we disagree with what they are doing.

@ mom of 4 chis It didn't say so in the first one, but in the second it had some other stuff. After interneting around a wee bit, I did find where she had been cited..mostly for maintenance and cleanliness issues. No pictures, so hard to judge.

@brody... Oh, some do. Some of the stuff I've seen on Animal Cops made me want to strangle people. They just targeted her because Biden bought from her. That was what I disagreed with myself. He may or may not have done the right thing by breeder buying... but she should not have been targeted for just being a breeder. Now, if she was breeding till her female's teeth fell out and her studs were walking racks of bone... yup, then she could be considered evil.

I read that on yahoo, that so crazy! Being a fellow breeder, I can see how that was a nightmare for her. Inspectors can be so harsh, its like they think dog and puppies dont have accidents. It would be an honor to have such a high person in out country have one of my puppies, but at the same time the nightmare of harassment isnt worth it.

funny i was just coming to post this. i don't think its fair that she got all the heat , so far there is no photo proof that she is a puppy miller, so you can't really hate on her because you don't see what's going on. from the yahoo story she said kibble on the floor and hair, now if they are out to get you then no matter how clean you are they will get you.

I'm sure biden didn't check into things when he said oh i want that breeder, some one might have said "so and so ,breeds GS" and ran with it BUT if she was sooo dirty and a puppy miller why did they go to her hosue and speak to her and rave about her pups months ago when he said he wanted one. The story i heard was that the puppy was going to be trained by her or some people before going to biden.

another point before i go ..
There is NOTHING wrong with getting a shelter dog but some people want if from a breeder , less headach, to me if shelters didn't hound people sooo much and was soo picky i'm sure more people would go there. My self included but i can't go so what i can't have a dog? no i go to a breeder to get my dogs . single people go to shelters , people with kids go to breeders.
My first dog was a shelter dog and i loved her to death but i went back to the shelter to get another i was turned away so i feel him on getting a breeder pup
