Default School field trip vent

Today I went on a class trip with my son (hes in kindergarten ) THe teacher sent home permission slips last week & asked for a few chaperones so I signed up. So today was the big day I got there a whole 45 min. early cause the office printed the wrong time on the reminder sheet they send home & then I ended up being the only adult in the class except for the teacher. The trip started out badly cause me & my son had to sit with the worst kid in the class on the bus this child is a terror!! Then I had to basically keep track of the whole class (14 kids) on my own cause the teacher wasnt paying much attention to where they were. I was so glad that I went cause we were at a little makeshift zoo with Lions, tigers, cheetas, panthers, snakes, alligators & many other animals. The trip only lasted a few hours but boy did it feel like forever!

I've done my share of those school field trips too and I feel your pain!!! Usually very few parents volunteer and just a few end up doing all the work. Typical! But your son will remember that you were there. Good for you for going and chaperoning.

My son really had a good time so I was glad that I went this was our second field trip together last year we went to Cypress Gardens it was a little better cause almost all of the parents went. I think my son just has the bad class all of the other classes had at least 6 chaperones & then there was poor lonely me. O well at least I was able to take control & keep track of the kids. THere was however this one lady that I really wanted to smack she is one of those that yells at other peoples kids Im sorry but in my opinion its not ok to yell at someones kid you can yell at yours but not other peoples I quietly told them to behave tapped them on the shoulders to move forward when they went & gave them the look of death (my mom taught me this) when they were misbehaving.

Oh dear, it sounds pretty terrible and the poor animals in a zoo like that. I HATE those places and invariably have something to say about it!!! My hubby says I'll get arrested one day...only a matter of time!

I'm sorry it sucked so bad. There are rarely parents that chaperon field trips in Gaige and Dawns classes too. I went when they were in Pre-K but I can't go too often now because of Owen . I usually ask my grandma to go in my place lol. I don't trust the teachers to keep as good an eye on my kids as I do.

I wouldn't either, some teachers are so ditzy

My friend is a special needs teacher and as much as I love her, she is so dizzy bless her, I don't know how she copes with a class of children.
That said I wouldn't like her responsibility caring for other peoples children out of school and on trips

I can understand moms wanting to go along if they can, but I do think schools and nurseries do put on to them sometimes

My hubby volunteered for the zoo trip once when Court was little and the teachers appreciated it so much! Often, kids will behave sooooo much better for a man. Go figure. But he loved it too and so he was often the one who did the field trips and I did more of the classroom volunteering (reading with the kids, checking spelling words, special projects, teacher errands, etc.) We both really enjoyed helping out when the kids were little. Once they got to about 6th grade, the parent volunteers completely dropped out. So we were glad we helped when we did.
