Cool A Series of Canine Related Events: The Adventures of Rook and Artie

Since I recently started a YouTube page that is going to include a lot of stories about my dogs, I thought having a blog here might serve to supplement that site. Besides photographs, I've documented a lot of moments with video, and telling and showing stories about my dogs has become a much appreciated distraction from my day to day responsibilities. They are always up to something, or getting into something... Or if nothing else, being cute enough to warrant a picture. My life with my chis has only just begun, I am looking forward to the adventures I will experience with them in the future.

In the case of this forum, it will be a log of events for myself if not for anyone else who might be interested in what is going on in the lives of Artie and Rook. And in my life, likely, since the three of our fates are infinitely intertwined. They are the first dogs I have owned in my life who are simply mine, and I cannot deny the excitement and often odd feeling responsibility knowing that I have these two lives who will be beside mine for years to come.

Some of the replies to this forum will be thoughts and stories. Some may be links to amusing videos I have made, or copies of entries I've written on my personal blog. While the media of these experiences may vary, they will all come back to Rook and Artie, and the enjoyment and happiness these two unlikely souls have brought into my life.

Crate training has just started, and is going surprisingly well. I think it helped that Rook already had a bed in a specific part of the room that was viewed as his "space," and it was a short matter of putting his bedding in the crate and setting it in the same spot.

I didn't think he would take to it. The long and the short of it is that Rook is spoiled, and I doubted very seriously he would be at all agreeable to spending a night in a small gated bedroom, instead of having the freedom to tromp, sniff, and poop anywhere he wanted in my room. Maybe having Artie as company helped soften the blow, but both of them were absolute angels. No whining, no fidgeting; just sleeping through the night without complaint. By night two, Rook had no problem finding his way into the crate at bedtime.

Artie still isn't thrilled by the change, as he made himself at home on my bed and had all of the room to flop around, so being enclosed in a crate is more of a change for him. But he seems okay with it. No complaints. I guess I am pretty lucky to have two good little dogs who take well to their momma's whims. Rook has even finally gotten the hang on sitting when he's told to, with just praise as a reward.
