Default Newbie hello!!

Hello
My name is Brigitte
I grew up with a Chihuahua male, his name was Boubou (that was back in the 70's)
The we had my mother in law's 6 months female chihuahua. Her name was Mitsy. She came into our lifes a few months before our two other dogs (lab/sheaperd mix and sheltie mix) got sick with cancer and okd age). We loved Mitsy so much, she was our baby. She was a bigger (not fat) girl weighing 8.4 lbs fawn chi. She was dx with a murmur several years ago. Fall 2013, she started getting restless and the vet dx with congestive heart failure. We brougt her to the cardiologist and was on seeveral meds. She had ups and downs and back up again. We managed this up until the March, she suddenly got worst and passed away (11 years 4 months) while we were rushing her to the cardiologist at the animal hospital 2 hours away. Our hearts were crushed.
We have two other dogs, one sheltie 10 years old and one rescue rat terrier boy.
We just adopted a little chihuahua from a CKC very reputable breeder. They usually only breed for showing unless the pups are not suitable for show. This little girl was going to be shown but breeders started major renos in their house. Little girl used to go wverywhere witht them with the other show dogs but then she started getting too skittish.
She is 6.5 months. Litter trained and going outside well. Hasn't asked for the door yet but hasn't messed house either. (I am used to taking Mitsy out a lot when she was on lasix) so I just take her out regularly. She is crated trained. She is super sweet and very loving. Problem is she is so shy and skittish, she runs away from her when I need to approach her. Tried treats but it will need work. She wants on my knees as soon as I sut down. I thought her to sit and shake. That works but the running is annoying and not safe. I have made arrangments to get some training for the two of us. Her name is Coco, fawn and she weighs 4 lbs.

Hi there!
And welcome, this forum is fantastic for advice and general chi chat.
My little one is 8 months, used to be very shy and skittish the best thing over ever done was not baby him. He walks he doesn't get carried about we also took him everywhere to build up his confidence now he's the most social dog outside ever. He's amazing, With her running away from you since she's only 4 pounds of a tiny little thing someone coming towards her probably terrifies her start slowly by bending down and getting her to come to you. Running up to her she's probably like omg help, she's still young so I'm sure shell get there you just have to focus on building trust. Pablo was the same now he's constantly walking beside me and doesn't run when I try to pick him up. Be patient she'll come round! Good luck !

Default Newbie hello!!

Hi Brigitte, welcome to the forum! So very sorry for your losses.

Coco sounds like a very loving little girl. I have 4 chi's. 3 long coat girls and a smooth coat boy. I have 1 extremely shy girl that sounds a lot like Coco. She is 2 yrs old and used to run away all of the time when approached or rarely ever came when called. I've been working with her slowly and using treats that she loves and she's definitely making a difference. My youngest girl 19 months is tiny, 3.6 lbs and wasn't great with strangers approaching either, and she's improving as well. It's warmer out and we try and get her out as much as possible and have noticed a big difference. It's good you're doing some classes with your girl, I'm sure it will make a huge difference. Also it's not uncommon for a once outgoing chi pup to suddenly become shy and fearful around 6 months. It happened with all of mine. Some positive reinforcement and reassurance goes a long way at correcting this.

We ❤️pics around here. Please share 😍

Some chi's have genetic shyness, which is very hard to overcome. My last chi is now 3 yrs old, and doesn't come close to us. Even food won't do it. We usually just toss it to her. We have 3 chi's, and she usually watches them. Not with coming close. She will let us pick her up, but we try not to do this too often, 'cause she clearly is not comfortable with it.

Congrats on your new Chi! I noticed you mentioned the CKC. What part of Canada do you live in?

I am also a new Chi owner - Dorothy was adopted by us through a rescue in April.
