Default Hello I'm new here

I'm from Charlottesville VA. I lost 2 dogs last year, one a lab and a Chi named "Little Man". So I've been checking the SPCA twice a week and finally last week found a 7 month old Chihuahua. A young girl was walking in to give him up for adoption, but before she made it through the doors of the SPCA, I spotted her and was able to make the deal in the parking lot. Saved me $ and her $ because the SPCA wanted $75 to take the dog in. He's the best little guy named Otis.

Anyway Otis is about 7 months old. Only concern: he has two bottom baby canine teeth that are still there next to his adult teeth. Hoping they fall out. Has anyone else had this issue?

Default Hello I'm new here

Congrats on your new addition! What a great idea hanging at the SPCA, and jumping on the opportunity. Sounds like you and Otis were meant to be ! I personally have no experience with canine teeth , but have been in the human dental field for 15 years. On humans a quick x-ray would explain the cause. Usually it's due to the adult teeth either coming in crooked, empacted or absent. Hope this helps. Enjoy your new baby!

Or they could just be late coming in.

Gobo retained all puppy canines at that age, but within a few months three of the four fell out. He still has the one after a year old, so I will have to get it pulled. It really makes the plaque grow between it and the adult tooth! I suggest plenty of chewing on bully sticks!

Plenty of chewies! My latest chi has two embedded 'fangs'. One is lying just below the surface of the gum, and the other grew downwards into the jaw bone! My vet said she'd never seen this. They don't bother her, and hopefully never will. She will be 5 sometime this week. (breeder never registered the litter, and wouldn't tell me her birthdate!!) Very weird person she was.

One of my chis retained a few baby teeth as well around that age, but they eventually fell on their own. I agree with what the others said, lots of chewing/chew treats should help.

And congrats on your new addition! Sorry to hear about your other dogs though, losing 2 in the space of a year must have been really hard.

Haha In my experience, and no offense intended, all the breeders I have ever met have waaay more than their fair share of -shall I say- idiosyncrasies.

Your Lilo looks just like my Otis. It was rough losing my two best buds last year.
