Harley is my 12 week Chihuahua, we have 4 problems i could do with advice on,
1. biting, she constantly wants to bite/chew our hands and ankles.

how old was she when you brought her home? When she bites, say ouch in a shrill high pitched voice and then give her a toy and ignore her for a bit. Do this to startle her every time. This is what her mom and littermates did when they yelp, they let each other know they are playing to rough.

2. crate training, she will not stay in her crate or let me leave her.

leave her in there and do not get her out when she is crying, she will eventually understand. Crate should only be large enough to stand up and turn around in.

3. toilet training. somedays she is great no accidents. other days she does it anywhere she pleases, plus she eats her poop. Start over with training, take her out first thing in the morning, after eating, after every nap and random times throughout the day. Tether her to you so you can see her at all times, do not give her free run of the home. crate her when you cannot watch her but do not crate for long periods of time. Do not use crate as punishment. Clean any areas where she has potty thoroughly with something that will take the scent out like natures miracle or white vinegar and water mixture. You have to get the scent completely out or she will continue to go to that spot. When she potties inside, only scold her if you catch her in the act, never pop or scream at her. A firm NO will suffice. Take the feces outside where you want her to go and if she urinates in the house take it out on a paper towel and put it where you want her to go. Take her to that spot each time. When she potties outside, praise her like crazy. Be excited and silly. They so want to please us.

4. sleeping, she wont sleep away from me and she poos in her bed and eats it.

You have to make her sleep in her crate, she will learn eventually. She has some bad habits now because you have let her get away with these things. You will have to retrain her. Do not give in to her. Eating feces is aggravating and gross and they do so for many reasons. Sometimes it is because they are trying to clean it up thinking they will get in trouble. Sometimes it is because it was left in there with her too long. Sometimes it is because of the food she eats. It can also be due to her lacking something in her diet she needs. Some give pineapple juice in their food as most do not like the taste of it in the feces. There are additives you can buy to put in the food also. Keep the feces cleaned up when you are there.

Patience, praise and training with consistency!

Thanks in advance

I use an Iris pen with the crate/carrier in there, along with a washable human pee pad (34x36 inches). I put her food and water dishes down along with a few toys/kongs. That way the pup has a place that is safe for her to 'go'. I find training them to pee pads so much easier than trying to get them to do their business outside.

as for biting, this is pretty normal for a baby chi. I had a special toy that I gave mine when she was sitting on my lap. Only got it then. Hard kong, stuffed with p.butter, or just a rubber bone. I put the rubber bone IN the kibble so that it got a 'good' smell to it, and eventually they didn't need that to chew on it.

As for eating poop, I haven't had any luck with stopping it. I just pick it up asap. Mama dog ate the pups poop while they were nursing, but stops as soon as they start with solid food. Some dogs do this, others not??

I use a ferret carrier. They are not expensive, and last a long time (they are more than 10 years old) I use them in the car, to the vet, anywhere I don't want them seen!

Don't give up. This is a baby, and like most babies he'll grow up and be able to hold his bladder and bowels longer. Right now, when he gets the 'urge' he just acts on it. Sometimes he remembers, sometimes not! (much like a human toddler!) Takes awhile.

Hi I've just rescued a 2 year old female Chihuahua, we have had her 4 weeks now. She was pad trained before which I don't want so have been trying to train her. She has been ok up until now with a few accidents but we have had very bad rain for the last 2 days. She has been out for a walk and been in the garden to do her business but I've just noticed we has weed in her bed (in a crate which was open) whilst sleeping during the day. There is nothing wrong physically with her as I've just had her checked out. Is this normal? I thought they didn't do this in their bed? I did wonder if she is going to come into season as she hasn't been spayed. She hasn't weed as much outside as she normally does but I just thought that was due to the rain not because she was going in her bed. many thanks

I would take her to the vet and have her checked for a UTI
