Default New Here

Just wanted to pop in and say hi. My name is Melani, I'm 18 and I have a Chihuahua who just turned four on April 7th. He's pretty much perfect. He's being a fed a mixture of Fromm and one of the Racheal Ray's grain free foods right now but his breath is starting to smell. After doing a bit of reading I realize I probably should have been brushing his teeth starting as a puppy but previous dogs my family has cared for and we've honestly never even thought about it. Not really sure how to start with that now. I'd also love to switch him over to Raw but I'm leaving for college at the end of the summer so that will have to wait when I come back next year and take him with me to an apartment (I have to live in a dorm the first year). Blu also obsessively licks people but he's getting better and he also has separation anxiety without another dog around. He used to be crated with our other pup he grew up with but Milo passed away from Cancer a week after his fourth birthday last month. He is crate trained but without Milo he has started to poop and pee in the crate without him. We moved him to a smaller crate in an attempt to stop this but it's touch and go if this will work. My sister has adopted another dog, a shepherd, but he is much too big for Blu to play with. Because of this I am thinking about getting a new puppy before Blu and I move out to help with his anxiety. But time will tell, that won't be until next summer. If you've read all this- Thank you and I'm sorry for the length of my post. When I figure out how to post pictures I will

I've been wanting to try one of Rachel Rays Grain Free dog food for my Chihuahuas but haven't done it yet (at the moment the most food sensitive is being slowly switched to Nutrisca and it'll be a few months till I try Rachel Ray)
Try brushing his teeth with dog toothpaste and brush (personally it's hard because of their small teeth) also something like a dental treat. I use Greenies Grain free also have used Minties in the past. Also a couple of Nylabone's (my dogs lose interest when they realize they can't eat it) and hard jews.
Maybe getting a new pup would solve his anxiety issue but make sure your willing to also make the commitment because you're the one who will be responsible for the new dog (if that makes any sense)
I'm 18 myself and I still question how I ended up with 4 Chihuahuas (lol, I love them though)
