Default Howdy.

Gidday. Just wanted to take the time to introduce ourselves before I ask a question

We adopted a Long Haired Chihuahua from our local facility. At first he drove me bat#hit crazy, bouncing off the walls, peeing and crappin everywhere. I know he was abused, he came to us in terrible condition so he got a little more patience than I usually display. Still after a month, I was on the cusp of giving up.....then something happened.
Out of the blue, for the first time he jumped up on my lap and looked into my eyes. I saw nothing but love staring at me, this little guy was telling me he loved me with his eyes. I guess I melted and now he is my beautiful little man, no more peeing and crappin.....although he is still too active...lol.

His name is Max, after secret agent 86 Maxwell Smart. And I love him dearly.

Oh that is SO heart warming. Some rescue dogs seem to 'test' us, don't they? Do you REALLY want me? I love the name Max, and the connection. I watched that show too. Welcome to the forum.

So glad you stuck with him! I am in my 30s, but I watched reruns of Get Smart as a youngster and loved it! I wonder if he might have a bit of Yorkie in him with that kind of coat. Either way, he is adorable!

Thank you for the warm welcomes!

I do not know if he has something else in him or not. I only know what the pound told us he was. He was apparently rescued from a puppy farm. His back end was naked of fur due to an untreated flea infection, he had gnawed all the fur he could reach with his teeth off. Thats why he has/had a mane!

Which brings me to the reason I came here, to ask a question. I took him to a groomer for a bath and a trim. Much to my disappointment, they trimmed the mane right off! My fault I guess, should have asked them to keep it. Anyway, someone told me that once you trim a long haired, they do not grow back nice and long.

I was wondering if there is any truth to this.

Thank you for reading! Here is a more recent pic of my little man, all trimmed up.

I like him this way!!!!!!!!!!! At any rate, the hair does grow back. I have my long hairs trimmed like that in the summer. They always grow back. May be a softer coat, but it does grow back. I'm glad you got him groomed and got that rear end cleaned up from the fleas. A small/tiny dose of coconut oil might help the irritated skin from the fleas. Start out with only a few drops of oil, and slowly increase to a teaspoon. Too much too fast, and you will end up with diarrhea. You can also rub a little coconut oil unto the irritated skin itself. His ears look really big in this picture. So cute.

He's really cute
I don't know if it'll affect his coat how it grows back.
But I haven't heard that.
