Default first time owner

Hello All,
This is Sam, a first time dog owner, I have a 6 months beautiful chihuahua boy called "Mocha". I have been reading a lot over the net for tips on how to raise a chi but things can be a bit confusing.
So I had Mocha 2 days ago and so far we have no crate for him, only bed and a pad since he is already trained to release on it and put him in a small laundry room adjacent to our bedroom with his food and toys.
I would appreciate any help on how to train Mocha to sleep in his bed in his room. first night I put him in the room and set a small divider on the door so he can't go out and he whined for like 30 minutes then went silent. the next night we thought he might get depressed if we continue like that so I moved his bed to our bedroom for the night and things went ok. any help is much appreciated. thanks

If that works for you, go for it!! I think all dogs should be familiar with a crate/carrier. I use a ferret carrier. If you go anywhere with your dog, ie, vet, store, etc they are much safer. My 3 all sleep in their carrier/crate. They have the door open so they come and go during the day. The other thing is if and when you have him neutered he will be used to being confined. Mine all woke up with their carrier right there. JMO!

Thanks for taking the time to reply. actually for the time being i think i will try to stick to having Mocha sleep in his bed. the question whether i should directly put him in his room at night or start in our bedroom and gradually move him to his room after a few weeks

If you want him to be in another room at night in the future, leave him there now. 30 minutes of whining is very little for a pup on the first night in a new home. Stick with that if that is what you want. It will be easier to move him into the bedroom than out of it later!

I would leave him in the room (laundry room? I think you said) you plan for him so sleep in long term.
It be harder for him to get use to one room and then get use to another.
Consider getting a crate.
