Default Hello - second dog advice?

Hi everyone, I have a 5 year old chihuahua named Biscuit. He loves small dogs but not larger dogs, so I don't take him to dog parks and he is unable to socialize.

I decided to get him a puppy chihuahua. I had a choice between two puppies: one really got along with Biscuit and they loved each other, and another puppy took a liking to me. I took the one that likes me home.

Biscuit and him don't play that much. Biscuit is definitely interested in the puppy, but the puppy doesn't want to play with him...he only wants to play with me. I have a sense he's going to be a lap dog but I'm having regrets because I got a dog to keep biscuit company.

Anyone have experience with something like this? Puppy wanting nothing to do with the dog? Will he outgrow this? Will they eventually become best friends? Or should I try to "exchange" the puppy now while he's still young and people still want him? I just want biscuit to be happy, but he doesn't seem to be.

Hi, and welcome. How long have you had the new pup and Biscuit together?

I've never had an issue like this maybe someone else on here will have advice.
But 2 days I personally believe is still too soon to tell. The pup is still probably getting use to his surroundings as well as Biscuit.
Than again they might not be the "perfect" match

What has been your experience? Puppy automatically clicks with the dog? I'm really worried theyre not a perfect match...if they're not, I'd honestly much rather return the puppy, even though he seems to be attached and happy in his new home.

They played more today than yesterday, but it was still very short lived (ie. 5 minutes play the whole day). I'm not sure what's going on.

Honestly I have a dog who loves puppies he will play with any puppy.
My other dog Jr didn't want anything to do with Jojo as a puppy. They've had better interactions with them both being adults.
Jojo met a puppy not too long ago (he was the last one to come into our home and he didn't get to really meet a puppy) and he just ignored him. But the puppy was really jumpy and barking at him.
But my dogs have many issues with each other that's why I'm really not a great source for experience.
But it's good that they did play even if it was for a little bit.
I don't want to sound harsh but if the puppy was originally intended for biscuit why get that puppy in the 1st place? Were you hoping they'd just click?

Honestly, getting a dog for another dog is one of the worst reasons. You're actually better off having chosen the puppy who was focused on you, as it will be easier to train than one who automatically bonds to another dog first. If you don't think your dog is getting enough stimulation, then spend more time with him

I have 4 dogs, and they rarely play amongst themselves. If left in a room to their own devices, they will each pick a corner and curl up to take a nap. The only time the little ones will play together is if I have been physically unable to play with them for too long (that's actually how I know that it's been too long and I need to figure out how to get them out of the house for a bit). The big ones play with other dogs MAYBE once a year... even at the dog park they prefer human interaction.

I wouldn't return the puppy.
