Default New member intro/question

Hi everyone...It's been a while since I've had a puppy and I just picked up little Roxy yesterday. She is my first chihuahua. The question I have is that she makes little wispy sounds when she breathes. Almost like whispering. She is about 8 weeks old, active and eating, drinking. Is this something to be concerned about? She was examined by my breeders vet on Friday and passed with flying colors.

Have you had her to YOUR vet? I'm not saying that the breeders vet is wrong, but to make extra sure, I'd have her checked by your vet. It may be that she has a short muzzle and the breathing pipes haven't quite got big enough. Just watch her and see what happens after she has one of the 'zoomies' that chihuahuas are notorious at. If she doesn't seem any different I'd forget it!

She will be going to the vet this week. She does the tiny puppy version of zoomies already & seems fine. It may be just her way but I'll feel better after her appointment. Thanks for the input!! It helped.

Default Chihuahua Health

Last night out of the blue Roxy my almost 3 month old started gagging and dry heaving. She is eating, drinking and being herself in everyway. She slept thru the night but is still doing it on and off. I am not panicking cuz she just went to the vet last Thursday and has not got into anything that I am aware of. I watch her like a hawk. Should I just keep an eye on her? She is scheduled for a another checkup in about a week

Sounds as if she swallowed something and it got caught? She may have irritated her throat though. I would watch her, and if it continues, or gets worse, have her to the vet sooner. Puppies just drive us nuts sometimes!!! Chi's are so small, we worry a lot about stuff that if they were a lab or another bigger dog, we'd just wait it out for a few days.

Is it possible she is reverse sneezing? There are videos on YouTube so you can see what it looks and sounds like. If that is what it is, you can try putting the palm of your hand over her nostrils for a couple seconds to help interrupt the cycle. Also, make sure you use a harness rather than a collar if you walk her.

Otherwise, I second what Susan said.

I forgot about the reverse sneeze. The dog usually has her head forward as if she is trying to get air in, and then kind of inhales it and blows it out forceably, like a honk. The video that Reta mentioned would show it better than I can explain it.

The pup might have reverse sneezing.
This is what Buddy Bear got one night and I freaked. I started looking online and went through so many videos and it sounded the same. He was just fine once it happened and happily ate his dinner like nothing happened. Of course I was still a bit nervous.
