Default New Rescue baby and loss of previous Chi

Hello, all!
I have had the good fortune to have gotten a sweet and loving little Rescue baby this past weekend. She is adorable, spritely, sweet, and a chihuahua to the max! .
Sadly, my previous Chi was killed by a coyote in an anomalous and unforseeable situation. That has been an unforgettable heartbreak.

I am glad to have found this little baby and she seems quite happy with me. I just hope I can bond with her as much as I did with my deceased sweetie pie.

Sorry for the sad part of the story, but I am glad to be here and to be able to celebrate the joy of welcoming my new little buddy into my life.

I am thinking of naming the new baby Miss Buttons. She does already have a name from the Rescue though. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Have a great day!
p.s. Sorry I have such an ugly username. Not sure how that happened. I would change it if I could. I know I need to upload a pic of my little one.

So sorry to hear of your loss. Just this week on the news was the tragedy of a coyote attack on a chi. What was your new baby's name at the shelter and did she recognize it? This will help us come up with some names that are similar. Please post pics, too.

If your Chi has had a bad history, or unknown history, a lot of times with rescues it's good to change their name to get rid of any negative associations they may have with their old name. She'll quickly learn her new name

Miss Buttons sounds good. You would call her Buttons, right? I'm sure what ever you name her, she will learn her name. How old is your new pup?

We have coyotes around here, and I just have elected not to let my chi's outside. They get to look out of glass doors, but are safe and sound inside. Part of this decision is that I am 79 and some what unsteady on uneven ground, which my condo backyard is.

The rescue baby’s shelter name = “Dory”

She doesn’t really seem to respond to it. She follows me around a lot and will respond to any noises like “come here, little dog,” and that sort of thing.

Thanks!

Thanks for that info.
The rescue said she and her litter mate had been kept on a chain outside and a neighbor reported the inappropriate conditions. Then, the dogs were voluntarily surrendered because - apparently - legal repercussions were feared. Plus, my little one was being used for breeding.

Yes. Susan, that is what I was thinking. “Buttons.” Of course, I am open to suggestions.

Sorry you have coyotes too. Glad your babies are safe!

My little one is here on the couch with me, snuggling under The Blanket.

I'm sorry for your loss
I know we have coyotes but not specifically where I live (neighborhood)

I think Buttons is an adorable name!
