Default Technically a newbie, but Pepper is getting OLD

Iíve had Pepper since he was a puppy. He is now 8. He is a chihuahua/yorkie mix but is chihuahua in body and spirit. Iíve noticed over the past few months he is just acting OLD. Sleeps a lot, doesnít bark much. We have went on several trips recently and stayed with people he doesnít know and all he did was sleep, even when he was surrounded by cats who he usually loves to play with. Everyone has commented he is so quiet for a chihuahua, and he used to love to bark and play. I feed him limited ingredient food, and he gets to come to work with me every day. He used to at least acknowledge people who came into my office. Now he just sleeps through everything. Iíve also noticed he doesnít seem to hear well anymore. He doesnít even bark when people knock on my door. I know part of it is he hates the cold, but he would at least run outside for a quick potty break last winter, now he wonít even go out the door if itís not 65 degrees. He has been using the bathroom indoors all the time, and heís been housebroken since he was six months old. I chose a chihuahua because they have a long life span, but heís acting like heís a 100 years old. Any advice?

Welcome to the forum
I'm not sure why he could be slowing down. Maybe because it's colder out.
Do you think it could be health related?
I think it's awesome he can go to work with you

It is time for a vet visit. Could be he has a low thyroid count. Could be a lot of things. Any time a dog's usual routine becomes different, time to figure out why. 8 years is not old for chihuahuas. I would put newspapers/washable human grade pee pads/or regular dog pee pads down by the door to make it easier for him, until you can sort this out. Thyroid problems make a dog sleepy too.

Welcome, I'd definitely have him checked over by your vet. Keep us posted!
