My chi(3yo) has always had a lot of tears eland eye watering. Lately, I've been slightly worries if that's normal.

Furthermore, the inside of his eyes is always ted!

Everything is shown in the pictures, please advise me if you think thats normal or not.

Thanks!

P.S. His name is Bobby.

Welcome. Bobby is adorable!

Is he often squinty like that? Have you spoken with your vet about your concerns?

He's cute
I don't think I've ever had a squinty issue with my dogs.
Jr's eye's get a bit watery/ around the eye gets a bit swollen redish but because of his allergies (vet said it was normal)
Once Jojo got a bit of a red eye (the white parts of the eye) and I just went to the pet store to buy normal eye wash and within a day it went away. I personally believe he had got dirt in his eye since it was windy and he was outside.

Any time you are concerned about a dogs eye, I think you should ask a vet. Probably nothing, but better safe than sorry. Most dogs have 'sleep matter' in their eyes, that needs to be gently wiped away. But if the dog is squinting, that is something you should bring up to your vet.

Thanks to all of you for the kind words. I love him so much!

His fur beneath and on the edges of the eyes is always in a darker brown colour, I don't think I've ever seen him without it. Even directly after shower, it's straight back to that state.

I didn't check anything about it till now because I was told by a "dog specialist" that it's normal for the breed. Even if it is, I would go to big lengths to remove as much as possible, I think. He'll be even cuter without the tear stains.

I usually clean him before and after work but in that period some crust is formed from all the tears and his fur gets hard where that happens.

He's home alone every day so I can't clean him regularly

Would you say a trip to the vet is in order? I'm making a habbit of bringing him for even the smallest thing. Not once have we been there because he was feeling down, according to me

I know what you mean by taking him for the smallest thing. I have 4 and if I were to take them every single time I worried about them I would have no money to my name so to speak.
When you talked to the specialist did he/she say it was "normal/ okay" for Bobby?
If you have taken your dog to the same vet maybe call and ask or send a pic of the dog. I personally am not this close to my vet so he'd have me bring them in but if you've been taking him to the same vet for a while maybe they might be kind enough to give advice over the phone.
But of course it's your call as you know him best and I've also haven't had any of my dogs have a squinty issue.

Has your dog been to the vet for this squinty eye problem? If so, what did they say? A dog that has that much discharge has something bothering his eye. JMO! It is NOT normal for a dog to have that much discharge from the eye. All my chi's have a little bit of 'sleep discharge' that I wipe away with a tissue, but that's it. No matting of fur, no squinting, no pawing at the eyes. Keep us informed; we all care!
