Default Hello... questions.

Hey everyone. Since Iím unable to post anywhere else, Iím posting here.

Sunday night, I rescued a Chihuahua. He is about 2 years old. He is very skinny, back bone, ribs, tail bond, shoulder blade feet are all very visible. I have been feeding him small amounts often. Chihwn, ground beef, some pumpkin. So far, heís gained 8 ounces!!! Whooohooo. He is going to o go to the vet, what questions should I ask and what should I have them check?

I'm glad you took him in.
Did he already go to the vet?
How is he adjusting?

Good for you for adopting this little guy. I would ask the vet for a complete physical and base line blood work. If he is not neutered then I would ask what weight the vet wants him at for this procedure. The base line blood work will tell you how his internal organs are functioning, or if he needs a special nutrient he's not getting. Usually, a good quality (4-5 star rating) will have all of these. You are right in giving him some small meals often, rather than one big meal. Keep us updated, we all care!

Thanks guys. He hasnít been to the vet yet. He is not neutered, and he will be asap. He currently weighs 3 ibs, 14 ounces. After just two days of having him, he is already extremely protective over me. He follows me around everywhere and has to be on my lap Whenever possible. Another question, the edges of this ears (all the way around) is hard and dried out. Any idea why?

Welcome, good on you for rescuing him! Hmm, I'm not sure about his ears issue but definitely bring that up to his vet. Keep us posted on how it goes.

It sounds as if he has been 'on the streets' a long time. I rescued a puppy mill mama, who had the same kind of problem with her ears. I used vaseline on them every night, and then in the morning I'd 'wash' the edges off with a face cloth. It took me many months to get to the 'normal' look of a ear. No infection, just dried in dirt it looked like. Where did you get this pup from? Shelter, private person, other?

He came from a private person. He was free, so Iím gld I got him before someone else did who continued to give him improper care. She said she couldnít afford vet bills, it she had a bull dog pup (who was over weight) who saw the vet monthly for his hip problems.

Oh, this poor little guy. THANK YOU for giving him a home and love and care. He will love and admire you forever for this. It breaks my heart to read he is in this state.
