Hi. My name is Kristy. My family just adopted a 1 and a half year old long haired chihuahua. We think she is mixed with a wired terrier. She is super small and timid, but loves to be in a lap. We are working on leash training. She is so super strong to only be 6lbs! Anyways, just wanted to introduce myself and my new fur baby Ella. Nice to “meet” everyone!

Welcome to the forum.
I'm sure she'll come around and have good leash manners 🙂

There are genetic tests that would make the ID more known, if you care. There are some longhairs that have a rough coat, but not wired coat. At 6 pounds fully grown it seems unlikely? Welcome to the group!

That might be something fun to do to find out. Yes 6 lbs. Maybe now that she’s in a home and not a shelter she will gain a few pounds? She doesn’t seem to skinny though and looks healthy.

The other thing is, maybe the food she was eating didn't really do much for the softness of her coat? There are 'skin and coat' supplements at some of the 'big' pet stores. The other suggestion is maybe there is some wirecoated doxie in her?
