Default Runny poo and slight blood in it

Hi all, I’m so hoping someone could help me out there. My 13 yr old has been having runny poo with a mixture of blood and mucus. I knoooow gross 😞. I have taken her to the vet twice with this where she was on flagyl Which I believe is an antibiotic. She got a bit better for a few days then started up again. I ended up taking her back to another vet as we moved and they gave her the same thing and had me put her on canine Prescription ID food. Needless to say she loved the food but she was going poop like 5 to 6 times a day ughhh and even getting me up two times during the night. I called back the vet and they now have her on prime 100 crocodile and tapioca. The vet said to give her something she has never had before and she might be allergic to chicken. Well it’s a week now and she is still getting the runs, not as bad just once a day. If anyone has any ideas or went through this please help!!!

That's really tough. 13 years old with diarrhea. I'd ask the vet for advice in giving this pup something to 'line' the gut. Like peptobismol? Her gut is inflamed for sure with bleeding. I really hope there is nothing seriously wrong. Have you had her x-rayed?

Hi Susan, yes it has been tough and the vet thinks that it might be colitis. She’s always been a sensitive dog that really the slightest thing would trigger her off. I’m hoping I can find a good that won’t giver her the runny poo. It seems that red meats make her have the upset stomach so I try to stay any from them. I was thinking of trying to get something like pepto as I am in Australia they don’t have it here ugh. We have been moving a lot so the vet said it could be stress related as well.

Agree with Susan that's a tough one.
Have you considered going to a different vet?
Have you called your current place and updated them, what did they say?
What is she eating as of right now?
Have you tried something just like white rice and a protein?
Is there another food the vet recommended maybe a kibble?
I'm wondering if there is any other type of medication she could take?

Make sure if you give her something like pepto that it doesn't have a lot of aspirin in it. I have heard that rice water (the water that rice is cooking in) is good for diarrhea. I have never used it. If the diarrhea lasts more than a day or two I go to the vet, which you have done. I would try to keep her schedule as close to what she considers "normal' if you can. I would keep in touch with the vet---. I would consider canned food over kibble for now, until the diarrhea stops. Its easier to digest. One BM a day is not bad, even if it is somewhat runny??? Let us know any updates---we all care.
