Hi everyone. I just adopted my first chihuahua a few days ago who is 10 months old. She is the sweetest girl! My only other dog is a toy Manchester terrier who is about to be 3 who I've had since he was 12 weeks old. I have a question about potty training. My manchester Dobey has been trained to potty outside and Presley our new chihuahua was trained to use puppy pads by the previous owner. She does amazing at it as long as I leave pads in every room of the house. She also goes outside when Dobey goes out to potty sometimes but she prefers the pads. No big deal at all. My question is how can I get her to potty on just two pads say maybe one by the front door and one by the back door so I don't have to have pads in every room? Or is that normal?

Hi, do you literally put one in every room in the house?
In a day does she use all the ones you put?
I have 2 thoughts which one would be to take 1 away at a time (not all of a sudden) so she can get use to it slowly in the hopes of not having a accident in room with no puppy pad. And maybe give it a day or 2 to make sure she isn't going in the room without a puppy pad.
My other thought is just take them all away except for one in the front and back door. And she'll probably very quickly understand she can only go in those 2 spots.
I think if she's only going on the pads she might do well with taking all but 2 away.

I think Ari is on the right path. I'd take away the one that she uses the less. If you see her circling, or sniffing after you take away the pad, then gently take her over to one of the remaining pads and tell her 'go potty' or whatever que you decide. When you do see her 'go' on one of the remaining pads, be sure to praise. I'd see how that goes after a few days. If it goes well, pick another one, again, less used until I got one by the front and back doors.
