Default N00b here. 🐶

My kids are 9 months old. My male is a little guy named Zeus (3.4lbs) and my female is named Hera. Hera is 5.4 lbs of tough protective energy while Zeus is laid back and approachable. I love them greatly and hope to mate them in the future.

Hi there. Welcome to the forum. Are your chihuahuas from 'show' lines? I know a lot of people think that breeding 'pet' type chihuahuas is 'neat' and 'just once for the kids' etc, BUT to correctly breed chihuahuas is quite an expensive procedure. Vet bills before mating to make sure Hera is healthy, vet bills during the pregnancy, to see how many pups she is carrying and to make measurements of the pelvis to be sure she doesn't need a c.section. and maybe a c.section. Then the vet bills for the pups first exam and to make sure none of them have cleft palates etc. Then bills for the 'shots' all puppies need. If I am sounding like someone that doesn't think its a good idea to breed 'pet' type puppies---I AM!!! There are some good articles on the 'forums' that you can read.
Please excuse me for being the 'bad' guy here, I'm thinking of the pups lives after they leave your good care.

My pups are not show pups. I’ve read your thoughts on the matter and will take them into consideration. Thank you for the warm welcome and I do not view you as the bad guy.

The other thing that makes the breeding is the male dog, or stud. For ever after this male dog will mark his territory, hump everything in sight, and be generally miserable if he can't get to females in heat. To make a good pet out of him, and protect him from prostate cancer, please neuter him. I saw a 13 year old male that had to be euthanized because he had such an enlarged prostate. Couldn't pee well, and was very constipated. JMO again!

I used to breed Labradors and never found my male to be hump happy. Nonetheless, I appreciate your advice and will take it into consideration. Do have a wonderful day.
