Default Hello Everyone

Hello, I recently lost my two chihuahua fur babies Nov. 30th and I'm on this site mostly looking for advice for if I should get another chihuahua or not. I've heard it's not good to get the same breed but I just love the breed so much, though I'm thinking about looking at mixes. Please everyone welcome me to this nice board, I look forward to meeting new people

Welcome to the forum. So sorry about the loss of both of your chihuahuas. Hopefully they died of old age---. I don't know why you'd want to change breeds? There are lots of mixes too. I've only had purebreds, but might be interested in a mix. Let us know of any help we can be, as we truly care.

Sadly it was not old age...I only had 6 years with koko and 1 1/2 with kiwi. The vet wasn't sure what it was, best case scenario it was a spider, snake, etc bite worse case it was one of our neighbors. I searched our yard extensively for anything that they could've gotten and found nothing.

Oh I'm so sorry. I know from personal experience (when I was a teenager I had an 80 # boxer/lab mix. He SOMEHOW got into DeCon rat poison that was INSIDE a garbage can and died. I knew he had been fed the decon by a person, because the garbage can was one of the city ones and it had never been overturned. I was devastated. I was 15 and I still remember that dog. He was a beautiful dog.) If I were you, I would not leave my dog outside unattended. Are there any mushrooms out there? Some are poisonous, others are fine.

We live out in a rural area so I dont have many neighbors, three of which aren't the nicest...dog people per say. Koko and kiwi were actually in an enclosed pen(since it's cold out I would put them out for a few hours in a pen that had a heating lamp to keep them room and was closed off from predators). I searched the pen head to toe, found nothing, I was too upset to check them for bites but my mom saw nothing on them. Two weird things were kiwi's mouth was stuffed with leaves but there were no leaves in the pen and they smelt like arsenic(which the vet pointed out). My bigger dog, an aussie, was luckily safe, not even sick

Oh boy! that would diffenately make me wonder about someone doing this on purpose. I wonder---they were not barking a lot? Arsenic works very fast. Someone could have tossed meat covered with leaves into the pen?? Whatever, I'd be very careful. Did you make the animal control/police aware of this. If not, I would, even at this late date. Maybe there are others that this has happened to?

Welcome here, elizadavis384.

I'm such a "new mom" I still make myself laugh. Laurel is 16 weeks old, my first dog since raising my "people puppies", and my first Chi ever.

Sorrelfur, I would definitely talk to animal control or law enforcement too. One of my favourite radio shows about dogs put it in a kinder way than I could: when you lost Koko and Kiwi, there was just such a huge hole in your heart that you need to fill it with the love that gets reflected back from all the love you have to give. Sometimes people just don't understand that there is nothing like a little dog.

Wishing you peace as well as justice for Koko and Kiwi and safety for that little boy who has caught your eye.

Laurel cannot "replace" the family I used to have any more than this little boy can replace Koko or Kiwi, even though I have no doubt that she would gladly give her life fighting to the death if she thought she could do so, but it is enough to have a waggy tail who is excited to greet the day and a sweet pink tongue to kiss away the tears that still come because some things can't be fixed and only a little dog can help us carry them.
