Hidy everybody, Newbie, just joined from southern Oklahoma. I've been a lurker here for 2 years and now have decided to join and ask some questions.
I have a total of 4 dogs, 2 of those chi's and 2 cats.
First, I just want to say that up until 2 years ago I didn't care for these things.
I had grown up with relatives that had them and they were nothing but holy little terrors including being ankle biters. now 50 years later I have 2 of them.
1 chi I got just a couple of days ago. I didn't want another dog but I fell for her the moment I seen her plus I felt sorry for her. I'll be posting about her later. My other 1 i've had 2 years now.
Streak is the older 1. My mother on a whim decided she wanted a puppy and found him. The only problem was the day she got him she was planning on going on a cruise in 2 days so I got to babysit him for a week.
He was 4 weeks old at the time. Cute as a button and very friendly for a 4 week old. Then when she got home she took a trip to a family reunion so she was gone for another week.
By the time she had gotten home and rested up from that trip she decided she didn't want him after all and told me I could have him. I laughed and told her good because I wasn't going to let her have him back because I had fallen in love with him.
Anyway, by that time he was getting along with my 2 other dogs. Half black and tan coon hounds mixed with who knows what. Male and female brother and sister, Rosie Lynn and Bud, short for Budweiser. My late husband named him of course, what I don't understand is that my hubs didn't drink. They are 4 years old now.
Anyway, Streak was the runt of the litter and mom said that the lady she got her from was going to give him to the Humane Society because nobody wanted him.
She lived just up the street from us and several of our neighbors got his siblings. 4 of them. 5 is a large litter for a Chi isn't it? Anyway, over the next several weeks every one of them passed away from 1 thing or another but Streak never had a problem.
Unfortunately, he does have some health problems. He is asthmatic and has hypoglycemia. But he is the most loveable chi I have ever been around. Well, except when the mailman runs then he turns into a Rottweiler, LOL
Now there's Miss Dolly, A neighbor showed up with her day before yesterday. His wife had bought her at 6 weeks for 60 bucks, unpapered. From what I understand they wanted a 100 for her with papers but she didn't have it so they offered her for 60 without.
They had her a couple of weeks then the wife decided she didn't want her after all. So the neighbor gave her to a cousin, cousin had her a couple of weeks, he decided he didn't want her and gave her away to someone else. By the time it was all said and done she had had 6 owners. I'm number 7. She didn't even have a name.
Anyway, the neighbor just happened to know the people that had her last and he went to visit and was appalled at what he found. She had been kept outside and was starving. I mean litteraly. I weighed her and she weighs 2.3 lbs.
She is nothing but skin and bones.
Her little spine is sticking up, her gums, scared the heck out of me, gray as gray could be, no pink to be seen. Thankfully they hadn't turned white yet So I thought I could save her.
She's 3 and a half months old. She stands about a half inch taller than Streak does. She has some long legs. I kind of laugh when I see her and Streak standing side by side. Reminds me of a Thoroughbred race horse standing beside a Quarter horse, lol.
She is crate trained thank goodness but I have found a couple of little messes in the house. But I expected that considering she was an outside dog. Cat's don't like her at all but hopefully that will change. She and Streak had a knock down drag out fight last night in my lap. That was interesting to say the least. She is very territorial.
My dogs come to me to let me know they need outside and when Bud did that she growled and snapped at him. He looked at her like do that again and i'll tear your head off, lol.
She has no boundaries. She dosen't know what those are, she keeps jumping in their faces until they growl and snap at her.
I'll post some pics. By the way, I could be wrong but she looks more like a Rat Terrier to me but the neighbor says she's full blood Chi. So, let me know what y'all think.
Her gums have pinked up some already thank goodness. I normally feed everybody Purina but she needed something else and I got her some Caesars.
