The cutest stray ever. What do I do?!?

Well, I have no idea if anyone here can help me... But it's worth a shot.

So we moved to our new complex a couple months ago- there are a bunch of stray cats. Our neighbor (who is this big rock+roll motor cycle dude... he's awesome) had one who would sit by his front door regularly... I think he keeps food out for it. When it would see us it would stay by his house and just meow as if to say hello. Well lately it's been coming by us.... And when I say coming by us I mean rubbing up against us, kissing, trying to come inside and be our new pet.
We CAN'T have any more pets. Between our chi+ cat, we're at the community's limit per household... Plus, my cat seems p*ssed when we come in smelling like another cat. She's about 2 1/2, not used to sharing us with other cats. She had a hard enough time getting used to the chi. Not to mention we feed our pets expensive food. Money is tight, it would be irresponsible for us to take in another pet because we really couldn't afford the vet bills/food.. As much as the stray ISN'T my responsibility... I've sort of fallen in love with it. I don't want a cat that sweet stuck living outside. Of course when it storms out I'm constantly freaking out feeling bad for it.

I'm not sure what to do. Do you think if I called a shelter and made a donation they'd take it? There aren't trap/neuter/release places around... I was thinking of calling a vet and seeing if they have any ideas but that's not really what they're there for is it? I don't know what to do.:foxes15: I tried to attach a photo, let me know if it works.

Aww, what a sweet peanut! :love4:

Sorry, I don't have any ideas :( You could try Craigslist, though that site makes me pretty leary sometimes :-/

I've read on the cat forum that quite a few people take care of strays that stay outside all the time. They build a little shelter for them so they have protection from storms, cold weather, etc. and provide water and feed them maybe a lower quality food than they would their cats (the best that they can afford). If you can't find the cats original owners and there are no no kill shelters nearby and you can't find him/her a new home, providing a temporary shelter might be their best bet.

Definitely put up "found" posters, call vets, shelters, etc. just in case someone is looking for their lost pet. Sometimes when people move, cats will travel an insane amount to get back to their original home.

Craigslist makes me very nervous =/.. I'm going to call shelters tomorrow I suppose... I'm supposed to be studying for an interview and I'm panicking about this cat lol

My daughter has a stray cat as well, she can't take it in as she already has 2,so she made it a little shelter as Krystal said, with a blanket and waterproof cover and he's fine outside, she feeds him what her cats don't eat and scraps

Ask around to see if anyone would take this kitty. If no one does, find a little kitty shelter (dog house) like mentioned above. You can put a heating pad in it for the winter. I feel you frustration wanting to take this baby in, but not being able to, but you have a great heart trying to do the right thing. It's already more than anyone else has done for this kitty.

Is there any cat rescues in your area? Call them to see if they can help and the temp shelter etc. from above all great ideas.

I would also suggest trying to find help with spay/neuter for the kitties because if it's not done the population will just keep growing and each year you will have more kitties running around :( Most local shelters/humane society's have programs for this or you might even find local vets that assist. I know it's pretty hard to get a cat into rescue these days as we are all full, you can probably call around and get on a waiting list. In the meantime I would definitely keep feeding and set up a little shelter. Here's a link for building your own - especially once it starts getting cold
