Default domo ate cat food

and has had the runs all day! From 10AM to still now at 2 AM. I'm concerned beucase he's so small, 3.5lbs. What should I do? Vet in the morning? or fast him? He's otherwise himself besides the diarrhea.

Cat food is more fatty than dog food. I would say he'll be fine, just give him some canned pumpkin (not pie filling) if you can, or maybe some plain cooked rice to help firm things back up.

I would fast him for now, and make sure he stays hydrated. I give drinks of warm water with a tiny bit of tripe to flavour it, and Tree Barks powder sprinkled on. Then I give tiny meals of tripe, because it is great for restoring gut balance. Mine are all used to eating tripe though, the last thing I would do is introduce anything new. Maybe use chicken to flavour the water, or whatever he is used to.

Grilled chicken and rice... Ninja has this problem all the time. If i change her food or she eats something she shouldn't, or even a treat that she is not used to she will get the runs. I would say give him 24 hrs from the time he ate the cat food and then fast him. After 24hrs feed him a little chicken breast and some plain white rice. If after 24hrs he still has the runs it might be worth a call to your vet. I think he will be fine he just has a tummy upset, I would think. Xoxo

Thanks everyone. I gave him a small amount of plain yogurt this morning (the day after) and I'm boiling some chicken to make a broth now. I know he'll drink that. Will keep u updated.

Also for hydration you can give Pedialyte (children Gatorade without coloring etc)

I don't know if I'd fast a 3.5 pound chi for 24 hours. Maybe give broth, rice water, and electrolytes. But fasting I wouldn't do. JMO! I would try something that lines their tummy. Kaopectate?

I wouldn't fast for 24 hours with a tiny dog, but a short fast to allow the system to be empty works well when the cause of the upset is known, like in this case. I also let the dog guide me, if they are really uncomfortable they tend to refuse food anyway, so fast themselves.
How is Domo today?
