RIP Stitch... :(

So yesterday I decided to play with one of my hamsters that bit me every time i held him. He was running around my bed like normal and munching on food i layed out for him... hamster food. (he was a robo dwarf hamster). He seemed fine.

So I wake up today and check on them like I do every day and Stitch was "gone." Laying motionless in his cage with his cage mate next to him. I was and still am a bit depressed about his passing since I just played with him yesterday night.

Anyway as i go to take him out, i left him in the cage by the door to get a proper burial box thingy for him, and when i come back I see his cage mate trying to bring him back where they were sleeping. Awwww. Poor guy. I scooped Stitch (RIP) and buried him in the back yard under a tree.

Now there's only one robo hamster in the cage looking "lost." I feel bad for him. I'm not sure if I should get another hamster because I'm not sure how he will react with the new one...i'm not sure if I could bring him back to the store if he doesn't get along since I have only one cage.

People tell me to hang on a while before "replacing" the one, but I kind of feel bad for the one that is in there that got left behind to live by himself... the one that died was on the small side and the other one kind of climbed over him on a few occassions. But i'm not sure what happened over night. :(....

I am very sorry about you loss of Stitch. I would advise waiting on getting another hamster because even the dwarfs can be very aggressive towards others and there is a very good chance you would have to keep them separate. You would also need a cage to quarantine the new hamster for at least 3 weeks before introducing it to your existing one. Every hamster I have had both Syrians and dwarfs have always looked very healthy and active right up until I find them dead in the morning which is the reason I stopped keeping them.

How old was he? Roborovskis don't have very long life spans. Generally it is only the males who show signs of aging, the females are usually fit and active until the day they die.
It will be very difficult to introduce another hamster to your existing adult, they are best introduced as babies.

Thanks. I know it has been a while since I last posted. I did not get a new hamster because of the fighting issue that could occur. The other hamster is doing well.

I'm not sure how old he was because I got them from an ad on craigslist.

This is older but I think that was a good choice. I have a female Robo and she has always lived alone after I rescued her.
