Default Mom got 8 week old yorkie....

So Mom picked up an 8 week old Yorkie for free that these older women were giving away. I'm not happy that he's only 8 weeks. Any how, I need to send her some puppy formula. She said that they were feeding kibble and it was going right through him with spots of blood. She made him some boiled chicken and rice which seemed to soothe his tummy. He's running around playing with her cat. What are the good puppy formula's you feed so I could order some and have it shipped to her? Thanks for your help.

First she HAS to get the puppy checked over my a vet ASAP to see that he/she doesn't have parvo, or distemper. Blood in the stool may be nothing but irritation OR something worse. I'm glad she took the puppy to give it a good home. Just make sure that your mom has honey, karo syrup or other sugarary system, for low blood sugar. The kibble should be soaked in water, or chicken broth first.

Where is your Mom located? Any good 4-5 star kibble should be OK to feed as long as it is soaked first to help this tiny one digest it. Fromm, Now, Natures Balance etc.

She lives in Pennsylvania and I'm in TN. I told her to soak the food down. I just order some puppy formula and having it shipped to her. As you can see, I'm really worried about this little pup. I just called her again to make sure she has honey or Karo on hand. She says she wants to wait for the pup to be a little older before getting his shots. I told her to keep a close eye and if anything seems off to get him to the vet.

Get the pup to the vet for an exam only. Make an app't for later for the immunization series. Parvo or distemper are a real possibility. Specially after the curious way your mom obtained this pup. Purebred yorkies just aren't 'given away for free'.

I haven't seen the pup and only know what she's telling me so I'm not sure if he's a purebred. I've told her to take him for a check up and hope she will. I ordered the puppy formula and am having it shipped right to her.

Like what the others are saying on this thread, it's important the a vet must first have a check-up on him. He's still very young and may need some of the basic attention and diet according to his age. A yorkie's a really nice breed; really adorable too.
