Default Does this sound believable to you? (Kitten-sitting)

Would you believe someone who told you that they called a vet about worms, and the vet actually said the only way you have to worry about worms is if you see them??? I definitely can't see any vet saying that at all.

I am babysitting a kitten right now for about two weeks, and he seems pretty sick. He has a round belly and doesn't seem like himself.
He's going to the vet in two days (I just hope he can wait). The owner agreed to pay for the bill after she gets back in two weeks.

He was supposed to go to the vet two weeks ago to get dewormed and his shots, but I guess the owner decided to save the money for her vacation, instead. The owner already thought he had worms back when she first got him.

If this were anyone else's cat, though, I wouldn't even give him back. I have half the mind not to already.

What I don't understand is how this person rescued him from a bad situation, yet they don't have the heart to take him to the vet for worms back when she first got him (two weeks ago), or at the very least pay for some dewormer from the store.

First i would change vets if they told me that. Can't you get him to the vets earlier ? Sounds as if he needs to see a vet ASAP,he could be infested with them, poor little thing.

I'll bet that story will fall apart if you ask who the vet was. Sounds like an excuse to not spend the money on a vet. Some people's idea of "rescue" is all about love, not the care that is a part of really loving them.

How awful! I would try to get the kitten to a vet asap if you can.

Poor thing! How long has he been like that? :/ It seems very unlikely that a vet would say that and if so they're awful!

I'm not sure. He's actually been feeling a little better in the last day, even though he hasn't been to his appointment, yet (I wish I could've taken him somewhere else sooner, but this is where the owner wants him taken). He goes tomorrow morning, thank goodness. I really don't want to give the poor kitten back, but I have no choice in this situation.
I think the owner comes back Tuesday or Wednesday :/.

Instead of worms, the poor little guy actually has a huge abscess on his stomach, which you couldn't tell under his fur . Apparently, it looked like he was attacked by another animal at some point, but you couldn't see the wounds under his fur. We actually ended up having to go to the emergency vet with him, since the regular vet didn't have enough resources on the weekends. The regular vet thought he might need surgery, but he ended up only getting antibiotics, pain meds, and an ultrasound from the emergency vet for now. I hope he'll be okay, and that the emergency vet didn't just want to skimp on the vet care because of the owner (we got her on the phone for all the vets). I'm just glad he is okay for now. At that point, I was so afraid we weren't even going to end up coming home with a kitten.
