So, my kitty, Gideon, hadn't eaten for 2 days. I called the vet last night and was there for ~2 hours while they ran bloodwork. Everything came back normal (white cells in the "high-normal" range) and they gave him Sub-q and something to calm his stomach, and sent me home with a prescription for a human med that should boost his appetite (I would give you a name, but he's curled up on my chest right now and I can't bare to disturb him)

I was extra concerned because Gideon LOVES to eat - we feed raw, and it's his favorite part of the day, I think! He was showing interest in the food, sniffing, but then he'd just walk away. I did get him to eat a few mini bites of canned salmon (Wellness' 95% meat) before we rushed him to the vet last night.

This morning he snubbed his breakfast again, but after another hour I opened a can of cat food and made a salmon slurry and he did eat a bit then. Thank goodness.

Gids is the ginger one

He did the "empty stomach" puke yesterday morning - all foam and tinged yellow fluid, but just that once. That's why they gave me the tummy settler meds. They said the next step is xrays, but they wanted to see if this would work first (really, I think they just wanted to go home, it was an hour and a half after closing time). She told me to force feed him if I have to, and if things don't improve to bring him back monday :/

My Dexter has those simple signs for a while but after finding him a kibble he actually likes and is good for him he's done less is it unless he doesn't get enough food before we sleep. What food is he on btw? I know a fair amount of info on cats since my bf has 3 of them

Oh oops! I must've read over that. I'm not too keen on raw...u may be lacking something gibs needs! I think raw is good for pets that react well to it. How long has he been on it for?

Thanks, Ashley

Yes, Pidge, we feed prey model raw, and have for about a year. He has been on it for about 5 months (he's ~8 months old). It was not a decision made lightly, I researched for 2 years before jumping in with the dogs. Then researched again before getting the cats to see what I needed to give different to them. His diet is definitely balanced.

Occasionally we feed Wellness 95% meat from the can (found in the dog food section, but not technically dog food) when things just get too crazy, or the meat didn't thaw as fast as I thought it would -- so, maybe 2x per month.

My fall back otherwise is Petsmarts "high end" label - simply nourish. It's around the same quality as Blue Buffalo or Wellness, but a few cents cheaper, which makes the bf happy. And I don't balk since it is used so sparingly.

I am thinking of switching to Orijin, but I need to have a huge fight with BF first.

EW simply nourish is not the same quality..
How dare u! I've tried it before and Dexter hated,it...it smelled really good but no thank u. Wellness core is what we use, its grain free as well. They love it!!! I always thought raw was more expensive than kibbles. Also my bf feeds orijen to all the cats, they love it
