Default Sadie has ivdd

About 17 days ago I noticed my doxie's back leg slipped I assumed it was arthritis was getting worse so I made an appointment with the vet for the following afternoon. I ended up rushing her to the vet the next day her legs started splaying out and she could not stand. I had a horrible feeling it was her back but I kept saying she is too old she will be 12 this year. When I got her to the vets she had no reflexes in her back legs and when she would curl Sadie's back legs she would not uncurl them so I know what that meant. We put her on 3 weeks of prednisone I spent the first three days crying. Within a few days she was feeling better i joined dodgerlist and learned she had to be on 8 weeks strict crate rest. My vet had told me if she was feeling better after the meds she could come off crate rest. I decided to trust the people on dodgerlist. They recommended acupuncture and laser light therapy both of which I started last week. She was feeling great all week she even tolerated the acupuncture very well even the needles that they put the electric current into. Yesterday was her first day without prednisone she is now down to every other day. Well she was shaking but she had laser treatment and she hates the car so I thought maybe that is the reason. Well this morning she is still shaking and refuses to walk towards me to get out of the kennel. We will be going to the vets today I know this means another round of steroids. I knew this was a possibility but I am feel so sad and scared. I am not afraid of her going paralyzed or losing bladder/bowel control I will take care of her. My fear is she will not be able to come off the steroids and be pain free. The vet said she cannot be on long term steroid use. It is so hard to see my baby like this the hardest part is not being able to hold her I miss her so much. I did buy a stroller so I could let her safely but she hates it. She looks so sad behind stuck in her kennel like she is.

I am so sorry to her about Sadie. I didn't realize she has had problems like this. How old is Sadie? Prayers coming her way that she will heal.

I'm not familiar with this issue, but since it's back related I'm assuming it is pretty prevalent in doxies. Sorry, I could go on all day about many chi problems, but I offer no help on this one.

What I can offer is {{hugs}} and support. This sounds absolutely terrible. What a horrible disease. I am so sorry poor Sadie has to go through this and I am sorry that you have to watch her go through this.

You and Sadie are in my thoughts.

Thanks the scary thing is if she cannot come off the prednisone and be pain free. The vet put her back on prednisone. Tramadol and muscle relaxer. Hopefully this coupled with the laser therapy and acupuncture will help. After this I made sure Lola and my new Doxie puppy Linus have health insurance. If Sadie was younger and started to become paralyzed the surgery is $6000.

It affects one in five Doxies they are born with it. One day through am injury or turning wrong the disc ruptures and pushes against the spinal cord. It takes a long time to heal 8 weeks strict crate rest only out to pee. We are trying to stop it from swellings I much it crushes her spinal cord which leads to paralysis
