Default Please help! diet trouble after vet poisoned my babies

Hey everyone,
i havent been around for a few weeks as about 3 weeks ago, poor Boopsy and Chola were nearly killed by my stupid vets incompetence.
Basically it started when i got them both back from boarding with Cholas breeder for 2 weeks.
She said they had stopped eating their Ziwipeak and insisted on eating her dogs royal canin. Also boopsy the blue had developed a bald patch on her head which she said her vet told her was not fungal.
So i took them both to the vet and he did a skin scrape of Boopsy and checked under microscope and found dermodactic mites.
He told me to bathe them in a special wash Aludex diluted 1 pt (10ml) of solution to 10 parts water (1000ml)
so the next day i did the bath as prescribed and to cut a long story short, boopsy went into toxic shock 15 min after and i rushed them both to the emergency hospital where they were treated for poisoning.
I was in pieces and so angry as when i googled Aludex it says under contraindications NOT for Chihuahuas.
They were discharged the next day after fluids and decontamination.
The hospital Medivet did not charge me or my insurance a penny and didnt take any credit card details etc.The Vet, Abbey Vets (which is part of medivet) refunded cost of treatment and medicines...I was so angry this had happened and he didnt even apologise
Anyway, since then I tried to build up their strength, so for a few days gave them cooked chicken, brown rice and carrot and goats milk then tried to phase Ziwipeak back in.
Well they were doing ok, but the last few days barely eating the ziwipeak and today I saw Boopsy looking like she was when she was poisoned.I gave her some ham and milk and she has perked up. Her bald patch is still there but no more scratching. Apparently dermodactic mites are carried from weaning and not contagious (Chola has not showed any symptoms)
I am at a loss.
I dont know whether to start them back on the chicken as they bare touch the ziwipeak which they used to love and i'm scared of Hypoglyceamia.
I think they developed a taste for the chicken and it put them off ziwpeak.
Also Chola the smallest seems to be the dominant and tries to bully poor Boopsy and Boopsy is looking like she is not happy at all lately
Any guidence or help i would really appreciate as i'm still trying to find a chihuahua friendly vet and dont trust the one that nearly killed them
I'm so confused and frustrated
Thanks in advance guys xxx

I'll leave the advice for the more knowledgable people around here but I just wanted to say that I'm so sorry that happened. It must have been awful for you. I wish we had more options here in the UK, like holistic vets and such but they're a lot harder to find than in the US. Good luck in finding a better vet xox

I'd look into activated charcoal and take them to a different vet asap. I'm so sorry this happened to you.

Yes they had the activated charcoal and it seemed to work. Its just confusing me how 3 weeks later Boopsy still seems to be having these funny turns...i'm hoping its just blood sugar levels that i can monitor and address. Had to give her some ham and milk this morning just to get something in her system. And she defo perked up thank god!
Then this afternoon i tried them to eat some royal canin left over from when i got them and to my surprise they wolfed it down! But i was trying to get them onto Ziwipeak as it has no grains or corn etc, but i'd rather them eat something than be at risk of hypoglycaemia by refusing the Ziwi...maybe they just want variety or needed the carbs from the grain? This evening they seemed much better again! It just confuses me but i guess for now i will have to keep a close eye on them.
But thanks guys for caring x

I'm so sorry your little ones went through that! I am all about excellent nutrition and my own dogs eat Ziwipeak, but having said that, personally I don't think it would hurt to let them eat the Royal Canin for a little while until you can get them well and find a better dog food they like. Where you are located I think I have heard good things about James Wellboved and Canagan(??) and there's one more that I can't think of the name. Also, and scrambled egg is fantastic for them if they like it. I personally think they could have one a day and definitely every other day. Good luck and keep us posted.

OMG! I cannot imagine how you must feel! Thankfully it sounds as if they are on the mend! I agree with Lisa, to take them to another vet just to be sure all is well!

I am so sorry this had happened to you!!!

Your vet seems utterly ridiculous!! The same thing happen to Kaito and apparently as you know the baldness happened due to the mites that infected him due to stress. After giving my dog some powdered parasite medication, the baldness went away in days.

Why in the world would they change your pup's diet??? Like especially for Royal Canine. I don't like when companies use by-products...

For the food problem... it's cruel but my friend told me that what she did was give them a specific eating schedule. So maybe at 8am and at 6pm? If they don't eat during that period then just take the food away from them. Don't give them any treats or anything.

Hope this had helped even a little bit and hope your little puppy gets better!!! It's so sad to see helpless babies getting sick and not knowing what they want or need...
