Default Just how much DOES it cost to feed THK?

THK can be confusing. You buy dehydrated food that makes a certain poundage of food. You can't really calculate the cost based on that. They offer a cost analysis that says it costs approximately $.60 cents per day to feed a 10 lb dog on their food.

I estimate (assuming a dog is 4-8 lbs, which most of our chis are), and guess that between add-ins (which aren't necessary, but we do anyway)and THK, we spend $.50 per day on each dog. That means its about $182.50 per year to feed each of our four dogs, or around $730.00 per year to feed 4 dogs total.

Seems like a lot...

Till you think about what you spend on something you don't even need such as cable and internet, which costs most well over $1000.00 per year.

So...for one dog, between 4-8 lbs, you can expect around $182.50 annually to feed THK. That's about $3.50 per week.

I spend more on that on gum and pop per week. I guess I just maybe have a different view on feeding my dogs than most people...they are my FAMILY, and $3.50 a week per dog isn't bad lol. They are healthier and more satisfied than they were on kibble, so that's enough to get me sold

Now not everyone can afford that...and its fine, I just wanted to break down costs for those curious of what it actually costs to feed the food.

Good breakdown Kristi. That helps to see it in black and white.

I actually have no idea how much it costs to feed Brody raw. I just throw in a cornish hen or a beef heart or whatever at the grocery store when I buy our groceries. I don't notice the extra cost at all.

Once in awhile I make a big order at hare-today.com or buy a bag of ziwipeak and that's when I notice the cost.

Me and hubby tried to work out what it would cost to feed mine on Ziwi peak. Worked out to be about 5 a week. Althought the big 5kg bag is nearly 70, it would last over 3 months, providing I add in a few raw meaty bone meals a week.

I waste more money than that a week on rubbish!

I just hope they like it when the 1kg 'trial' bag arrives.

Personally I do think raw would be a little cheaper...LOL. I just wanted to know exactly what I was paying, because I am definitely spending more than I was on kibble unlike what I originally thought. I do still think its worth it though. And they are getting a decent amount of raw meat and bones with it...you know my main reasons for not wanting to go entirely raw so there's no reason to re-iterate them, lol. But I do think it is the most species appropriate diet there is which is why I try to get as close as I can. I think THK will always be part of a staple, even if for some of our dogs we do go entirely raw. We'll see. With my job right now it just won't happen, but I would say they are getting MOST of the benefits, esp. as they get Ziwi too. I thought about ordering some of the grounds from hare today, too, like the turkey one with bone and organ in it, to mix w/ their THK.

Most of all I like that I can leave for a weekend and know my husband can still comprehend what I am feeding them LOL, even though he looks at me like I am slightly crazy (I have to put water in the food and what? stir? wait?).

I feel that if you can't do raw, kibble doesn't have to be the only thing to resort to now. And I like that I know we are getting balanced calciumhosphorus ratios to work with so its less thinking on my part.

I hear ya lol. At first my hubby was like "we are paying WHAT for dog food?" all I had to say was "babe its less than the cable" and he shut up LOL. It costs us around $14 a week to feed all 4 dogs, personally I can handle that LOL. Cuz I really do buy more random crap a week than $14's worth.

I think your menu and feeding plan is awesome. If for some reason I couldn't do raw, I would definitely do as you do and feed HK along with fresh meats, some ZiwiPeak, etc.

I don't want anyone to feel like raw is the only way and everything else is second best. I don't feel that way at all. Raw is what works for me, but I also keep an open mind. I think the HK is an awesome product.

If we could get hk over here I think it'd go down well. I have no choice in what indeed daisy it's raw or ziwi I have no other option coz if her tummy if we got hk I'd buy it for my lazy days if her tummy could take it!! I have ziwi cans here never tried the dry but will do at some point just for convenience!

I worked out it costs me about 1.50 a week to feed daisy with that cost you really don't notice it and like you kristi my sky bill is a lot more my outgoings are about 2100 a month so seriously what's 6???
