Default embark

just got me a free sample of embark. Gonna try it later.
The lady suggested sprinkling it over her kibble and adding some water to it. I asked her about using it as a stand alone but she said "they say you can, but i wouldn't". I actually know this lady she ran a kennel and watched my dogs a few times when we were on vaca. She is an older lady and raises greats danes and whippets, and shows them.
Can't wait to see leila's reaction.

Durrr. Okay here is what I would do...mix 1 part Embark w/ 1 part very warm water/hot water. Let it sit for 10 minutes. Stir it into her kibble. Clearly the lady's never fed it if she said sprinkle it on kibble?

I would bet she just isn't very familiar with the food. Many people are very stuck in a kibble mentality. I am 100% confident you could use this as a stand-alone for Leila and she will thrive on it if its the right formula for her! I will say that Thrive is quite a bit cheaper and is just as appropriate for a puppy as the Embark.

We use Embark for our little Westie puppy.

I would NOT just sprinkle it on her kibble. It would expand inside her belly instead of before she ate.

I would figure out her serving size based on the calories. How many calories are in 1/8 cup of Fromm's (I have it but not the bag, lol so I can't look). I would feed Embark to match those calories.

I feed my puppy 1/8 cup in the AM of Embark (she is 10 weeks old). She gets other meals throughout the day.

I would start her on 3 tablespoons in the AM (2 tbsp = 1/8 cup), and 2 tablespoons in the PM I think 3/8 cup will be too much. She's old enough now to be on 2 meals a day, so this is a great time to make the adjustment. That is of the DRY mixture -- you rehydrate then with the same amount of water and let it sit, then stir up a bit before feeding, of course. It should have a stuffing-type consistency.

So...add (hot) water...1 tablespoon for each tablespoon of dry THK...stir...let sit 10 minutes...stir...feed

ALWAYS clean out bowl between feedings. Because it's essentially raw, it goes bad in the same way a raw chunk of chicken would

Thanks guys! I couldn't wait and she was due to eat. I used 1 tbs of it and added same of warm water, let sit for 5-6 min then added a little less fromm then what i usually give. I mixed but left alot of the embark on the side to see what she would go for first. naturally it was the embark. She seemed to like it alot.

Glad to hear she liked her first taste of it at least. Always always always rehydrate any of the Honest Kitchen foods before mixing and feeding.

And yes, Embark is a complete formula and can be fed by itself, no adding necessary but supplementing is fine and encouraged also.

Sometimes I feed THK alone and sometimes I feed it mixed with raw meat, cooked meat, canned food, or kibble.

My chi girls are 6.5 and 7 lbs, for breakfast they get 2 tbsp of scrambled eggs, a biscuit, and 1 tsp of dehydrated meat (chicken or duck). For dinner if they eat HK alone then I give them 1/6 cup each. If I feed a mix of meat and HK then I mix 1/8 cup of THK rehydrated with 1/8 cup of warm water and add 1-2 tbsp of raw or cooked meat. If I feed a mix of kibble and HK then I mix 1/8 cup of THK rehydrated with 1/8 cup of warm water and add about 2 tbsp of kibble.

IF I fed THK exclusively to my girls I'd feed 1/8 cup twice a day for 1/4 cup total.
