Default Those Who Use TOTW / Orijen

Which flavor do your chi's prefer?
High prarie or wetlands?
Adult, regional red or 6 fish?
And how much do you feed your chi's and how much do they weigh?

Just curious as its a toss up between TOTW or Orijen at the moment. Both are better than what hes currently on. It looks like orijen is the better of the 2 but would love some opinions of people who fee them x

I just switched to totw from orijen puppy. I like them both, leila liked them both. Umm i havent' noticed any differences as of yet,(it's been 2-3 wks i think) except her poop looks smaller to me. Not sure why though.
This is slightly cheaper but that isn't the reason i switched. It was because i can get this here in my town, had to travel to get the orijen.
She is eating the prarie one i believe, it has bison as first ingredient. The pieces are a bit bigger than orijens, which wasn't that tiny anyway. They are like a flat oval i guess. lol
I paid $10 for the smallest bag and got it at tractor supply. I have been feeding her 3/8 c. a day, she weighs 6 lbs. Either on the dot or an oz or 2 over, last i checked. But I am considering lowering it after reading how little some feed. But she is 8 mos. old,(still a puppy) so i'm unsure if i should.

Thanks Cheryl thats very helpful!
I have 2 little sample bags of TOTW and I gave him a few biscuits of the Prarie and he wolfed them down.
I can get both Orijen & Totw from Zooplus online, although I do know of a shop locally that sells Orijen which is pretty lucky.
The Orijen is slightly more expensive but not by much.

Worked out roughly on feeding 60g a day it works out that the orijen would cost me 1.99 per week to feed and last 116 days.
The Totw would cost me 1.56 per week and last me 113 days.

Dahlia has been on TOTW Bison since weaning.
She has no eye staining and has been very healthy.
She showed some allergy symptoms on the Foul & Salmon formula
so we went back to bison. No probs now.
Orijen is the alternative I would use but it is not available locally
anywhere here.Id have to buy it online. Also we mix in Innova Evo
when we get free samples and she likes that.TOTW is a 6 star dog food.

Dahlia is a fantastic looking chi. And wow no tear stains, amazing!
Its definatly a toss up between the 2.

Do you think dogs get bored of having just one flavour kibble?
If I do go for Orijen I will have to stick to the adult formula which is cheaper.
But if I choose Totw I have 2 formulas to try (the 3rd is 5* rated not 6* like the prarie and wetlands)

Frankly I feel if you give them more options to be picky they will.
I try not to spoil her that way and keep it basic.
As a change of pace I offer her raw or cooked boneless chicken
breast once a week or so.She has had raw beef chunks once or twice
with no upset too.Im lucky she eats like a goat and has never been a picky eater!

Leo and Miley are on Orijen puppy, and we give the 6 Fish formula to Reese. Miley and Leo are both pretty easy to please, Leo was on Iams at the breeders, so I dont hear him complaining, and Miley is a total chow hound. Reese is my picky eater. Weve had him on a number of different foods and sampled things like THK, Wellness Core, etc for him. Some he completely refused to eat, other things he would eat, just with little interest. When he was a puppy, I used to feed him by hand just to get him to eat something as he was my first chi and I was so worried about hypoglycemia. When he was older I started offering him food only twice a day. Sometimes hed eat most of it, sometimes not, and he never seemed excited about it. We switched to Orijen a little over a month ago, I chose the 6 fish for him because he cant have chicken, and he LOVES it. He actually gets excited when he sees me filling his bowl, and he runs over and devours the whole meal. I may try Regional Red next time, but Im hesitant to even change the formula since he has been enjoying his food so much. I would highly recommend it, Im very pleased. I give Reese just under 1/4 cup twice a day, he weighs about 7 lbs, give or take an ounce.

Add- You can also consider Acana for him. Orijen and Acana are made by the same company. I really like that they use regional ingredients and produce their own food, as opposed to having it produced in factories elsewhere, as seems to be the norm among other foods (not necessarily TOTW, I dont know anything about that food). We switched to Orijen from Blue Buffalo after they had a recall on some of their formulas that they blamed on the factory where those bags were produced. That didnt sit well with me at all, and though my guys werent eating the formulas in question, I switched them the next day. Anyway, the only difference between Acana and Orijen is the protein content, it is slightly higher in Orijen, with a wider variety of proteins used in each formula than in Acana. This makes Acana a little less expensive, and for some the lower protein content is a plus b/c it is so high in both foods.
