Default THK Question

So we've been feeding THK for a couple months now and we love it, however - I don't know how to make them slow down when they eat.

I know that sounds silly, but sometimes they're in such a hurry they get it up their noses and i'm afraid they're going to gag sometimes they go so gaga over it.

I've heard of putting a tennis ball in a bowl of kibble to prevent them from wolfing it down, but i'd hate to clean a tennis ball with HK on it lol.

Ideas? Thoughts?

Thanks

Make it more watery?? Otherwise I really don't know what to tell you. My pups inhale any sort of food with that texture & short of hand feeding I've not figure out how to slow them down.

Yeah, thanks for the suggestion.

My two are just insane, I can't make it more watery because they're so worried about the others meal that they're lapping like crazy and getting it up their noses, sneezing etc.

I've tried feeding them in separate rooms and everything but they're just so worried about the other getting theirs, mainly Gretel, that she wolfs hers down so she can go inspect his empty bowl?

Oh bother. I fed them Thrive today for the first time and it takes much less water than the Keen I was using so they had a very watery breakfast lol, that was interesting.

Hmm, it helps mine to make it more watery...the more watery I make it the slower they eat it. My Faith is crazy about food and I always used a golf ball in her bowl to slow her down. The golf ball worked pretty well, slowed her down a little bit...I mean she still tried to inhale her food but it took longer since she had to work around the ball.

If making it more watery is not an option, maybe you could try spreading it out on a plate or cutting board or baking pan. That would spread it out so they can't gulp it down and if they have to move around more to eat it up they can't get it down as fast. Just a suggestion, it works for kibble so I don't see why it couldn't work for THK if you spread it out over a larger area.

Dang both of those suggestions are great, I hadn't thought of either. I have some golf balls in the closet we'll see if the OH will part with a couple for the pups! Thanks, will let you know how it goes.

When I fed kibble I used to put it on a cookie sheet or in muffin tin for Shellie my Golden because she would snarf food so quickly she'd choke, that made her slow down a little.
