Default HK Question...

Sorry for posting this here, but I wanted to ask, Katy sent me some Prowl for my kitties to try out, and being this is my first experience with HK was wondering, what all do I need to do? Just add some warm water? Is it okay to add raw meat? What raw meats would be good to add? Ground? Chunks? What ratio do I add meat to the mix? Can I mix it up the night before so It's ready to go in the morning on days I have to work or does it have to be fed warm? Sorry just trying to figure things out. According to the guidelines on the back of the box I'll be feeding 3 of my kitties about 1/2 a cup to 3/4 cup per day (8 tbsp) (9#, 11#, 14#), then the smaller one probably about 1/2 that amount (5#), what about a growing kitten? She's 5# and 6 months old? Will I use less if I am feeding raw or cooked meat to the mix?

I don't know about the feeding portions for kittens so I can't comment on that.

But it is really simple to mix, just mix equal parts of HK and warm water and wait 5-10 minutes for it to rehydrate. Then it is ready to serve or mix with whatever you please or be put away for a later feeding. THK is best served fresh but it can be stored for 24 hours if you so choose.

Raw meat is fine to mix in and really, the sky's the limit. That goes for ratio too, you can add as little or as much raw meat as you want. Most of us who mix raw meat with THK feed a variety, I add raw chicken, beef, pork, turkey, etc. It can be chuncks, it can be with or without bone, it can even be ground. It's really what you make of it.

I will say this though, Prowl is generally a thinner formula and adding a 1:1 ratio of water to THK is a bit much in my experience. I'd start out with less water, mix it up and continue to add water until it reaches the consistency you prefer.

Edited to add: if you are adding meat to THK then you will want to decrease the amount of HK you are feeding. I don't go by set numbers or measuring, I pretty much just eyeball it and keep an eye on their weight and body condition.

K On the box it says per 1 tbsp prowl to add 1 & 1/2 tbsp water, so in your opinion that is too much water? What is a good consistency? I plan on adding raw etc, but was looking for an easier option than prey model raw in the mornings on days I have to work so thought if I could get them to eat this, that would help somewhat and would be better than feeding canned, I normally take the dogs breakfast to work with me and feed then since it's easier for me instead of having to wait for them to eat, and they go to work with me.

Yeah I think that's too much water personally. When I do a 1:1 mix of Prowl I find that too watery so I would start with maybe 1 part Prowl with 3/4 part warm water. If you think it needs more water after that then keep adding until you are happy with the consistency.

I know they don't have multiple formulas for kitties but I know from experience some of the recipes do NOT require as much water as they say otherwise they'll be slurping lol.
