Default Acana

I changed Daisy over to Acana over the past week, from Royal Canin.

I assumed that being on a better dog food would make her stools smaller. (Sorry it's gross) but they've actually become bigger and more frequent.

Why is this? Will it settle down as she keeps eating the new food? I'm considering changing her back to Royal Canin at this point Dx

Are you sure you are feeding her the correct amount? She will need LESS acana than she did RC. Overfeeding can cause larger and frequent stools. So I'd try cutting her food back and monitoring her weight. It can take several weeks to months for a dog to fully adjust to a new food

Ditto to what Kristi said. When I switched Lion to Orijen/Acana from the Chicken Soup kibble, I didn't realize how much less they need. Lion was pooping 6+ times a day until I cut him back.

Thanks for the replies. The packet says to feed about 40-50 grams, and she eats a little less than that. How many grams would you guys feed her? She's 4.6lbs.

I'm not sure how many grams are how many cups or whatnot but I switched Piper from the RC Chihuahua puppy to the Acana Small Breed Puppy and man, am I happy with the results. Her poops are probably about the same size (possibly slightly smaller) but her coat looks better, her eyes are less weepy, she sheds less, etc. I definitely reduced the amount she was eating, though. I'd say I feed her half the amount that I used to.

I would halve what you are feeding her right now. The bag recommendations are way too much IMO. If she starts looking thin add just a small bit each day until you feel she is maintaining a healthy weight.
