Default The Honest Kitchen etc?

Hi everyone! I have a little problem with Luxie She is a beyond picky eater!

She is currently on raw with bone, only even with that she only likes chicken! She doesn't like salmon, goat, literally anything that isn't chicken. She was on Ziwipeak before this and she didn't like it much. She loves treats though so it's not like she is sick. She isn't skinny so I reckon she's getting enough food in. But a diet of only chicken couldn't be good right?
I'm thinking of trying out THK, which one should I choose for Luxie, who turns 1 year old tomorrow? There's like 6 different kinds!

Thanks so much for your help!! <3

Can she have beef? Or pork?

I'm sure someone else will chime in on the honest kitchen. I got a sample and Brody literally gagged when he smelled it. So it was a no go for him, but I know some dogs like it and do well.

I would email them asking for samples of the ones that would interest you. They'll gladly send you some.

I've heard mixed results about THK. The one thing I can say is try to find a good food that YOU like for her. She will not starve. If its just her being picky, not that it physically makes her ill, I'd stick with it. She will eat it. Changing her food every time she shows any sign of pickiness will just encourage her to be picky.

PS- just chicken is not a good raw diet. If that is all she will tolerate, I would definitely not feed her PMR because that isn't a balanced diet.

Does she get human/table food?

I would cut out the treats. Just like my kids did not get a cookie if they did not eat their dinner.

I agree with Ashley. She is smart and is holding out for what she wants.

You have to be wrong with her. I feed THK. The store I go to is very knowledgeable. I feed mine Embark. It's grain free. Some of them are not complete meals, so you want to get a complete meal one. You can also do Stella and Chewys raw, it comes frozen or dehydrated.

I like THK because it is more economical for me. I wish, sometimes, that Angel was a picky eater. He will eat anything! He sometimes cries for food. I worry because I don't want him to get fat!

I do thrive bc I think dex was allergic to turkey. It's a decent price and good for all ages. The only problem I have with it is he won't stop eating his poop ever since we switched! I'm seriously considering changing for that reason alone. Also, the dehydrated thing is good but has a few drawbacks. My two can sometimes be very blase about food and it can go to waste. If they don't eat it right away, it needs to refrigerated and then they won't eat it later cold, or even microwaved for a couple seconds. With kibble, I'd just pick it up and put it back down at the next meal time. You kind of have to firm about it though..everyone is right...she won't eat it if she doesn't have to, she'll keep waiting for treats. Such stinkers, aren't they??

If she likes chicken...I'd give Stella & Chewy's a try too. It's soft/palatable & just easy for them to eat. I have heard the freeze dried is best for picky eaters but the frozen patties are much more cost effective. They do have sample sized THK boxes. We've tried Thrive, Embark, Force & Keen (just a small box of that because it has grains & I don't feed grains but was curious). Out of all of those foods--my lot preferred Force best. But my lot isn't picky by any means either. I think all THK formula's are complete except for Preference where you add in the protein source.

I'd honestly try Stella & Chewy's frozen patties though. They have chicken, duck, lamb, surf n turf, beef...thats all I can think of right now...may be it. But...a good variety & all quite similar in texture/consistency. I do find the chicken a bit more wet but if she prefers that you can always add a bit of water to the others. (if she likes it of course!)

Good luck!
