Default I need some support

I lost Bettick last night. She was a 7-year-old black/white longhair. She was very sick and the vet didn't know why. Every time anybody would pick her up, she would bruise badly. Her eyes were swollen and her heat cycles had completely stopped. She had a bad odor coming from her vagina. She walked as if she was in severe pain. She limped on one of her front legs. When she urinated she cried out in pain. There were sores all on the inside of her mouth and she drooled constantly. When the vet tried to take a vaginal swob she would scream. She had started bleeding from her rectum and her stool became black and tarry. Yesterday she wouldn't let me touch her bottom and would scream. Her urine became very cloudy and she couldn't walk anymore. I noticed very strange vertical lines running down all of her nails. I woke up at 5am to find that she had passed in her sleep next to me. For the last week of her life she spent almost all her time in my bed. She had been on Vetmedin because she was diagnosed with congestive heart failure at the age of 5. The vet took her off that, thinking it could be causing problems. The vet thought the swollen eyes could be an allergy to the medication. She missed her last heat cycle, but she was not pregnant. She has eaten Orijen all her life. She showed until she was diagnosed with congestive heart failure (she had 2 litters, each of 4 pups, one at 2 years and one at 4 years). Her pups are Elf, Sprite, Brandy, Dougal, Ermintrude, Megan, Dr. Kimble and Aristotle. She was on IV fluids for the last few days of her life to keep her hydrated. She never got table scraps. She was fed 3 small meals per day. I mixed her food with some cranberry juice. The vet had absolutely no idea what was wrong with her. The only thing I can think of is that she was chewing on a fabric stool a few days before she got sick. She slept in bed every night with me on my memory foam mattress. The last day of her life the vaginal discharge was very, very bad. She was unable to even stand that day. This dog was my baby! I sanded her nails one a week when I got my pedicure! I just don't know what happened to her and I think that makes it worse. The vet had her on NaturVet Digestive Enzymes with Prebiotics & Probiotics, Neo Poly Dex Ophthalmic, Malaseb Shampoo, Rimadyl, Cerenia, and Proin.

Sorry for the long post - I guess I just needed to vent. If anybody has any guesses on what killed my sweet baby, I would appreciate it. An autopsy is being performed today, but I will get her cremated remains back.

That is awful to go through, only thing I could think of is ovarian cancer, but the vet would be able to detect that. I am so sorry you lost her.

I know it is hard to lose a pet, family member, especially when you don't know what happened. I lost a pet to cancer, it was very aggressive. I know it's hard but you will be able to cope later, maybe get another dog from one of her puppies if you keep in touch. A new pet doesn't take the place of the old one it will bring you more joy.

so sorry about Battick. Hopefully the autopsy will set your mind at ease. I suspect she had a bad pyrometria. (severe uterine infection) Please let us know.

It sounds like pyometra to me too. I don't see how a vet could have missed that though, usually an emergency spay is recommended if pyo is suspected.
I am sorry you lost Bettick, at least you have her children to bring you comfort.

So sorry for your loss. It is very heartbreaking!
I am glad you are getting an autopsy. I know it will put you at ease to at least know why!
