Default Goodbye Romeo. R.I.P.

I have never been fond of little dogs. Although cute, they can be annoying.
Romeo was my wife's dog. She got him back in 2001.
Last week he had to be put down. He had gotten to where he ate less than usual ,his eyesight had been getting worse, but he got around ok. Then one day he just gave up it seemed. He had stopped eating and could not stand. Just stared.

Somehow I feel like we let him down.
My wife figured with his age and all, it would cost too much to just have him live a couple of years longer. I don't know. I have gone through this with 2 chows and 1 cat before. Spend big bucks at the vet only to have them die shortly after.

Well. Here is to you Romeo. Although I did not like you much, it broke my heart. Rest in peace.

Rip Romeo. I think you liked your little Chi more then you want to admit. I know it is a guy thing. He was a very handsome boy.

So sorry. He was a lucky dog to be so loved. It was brave to let him go to a place where there's no suffering.

It is weird that although I have had to put down 2 chows and a cat in the past, this is the first time I felt so sad for an animal.

We have a boxer mixed and a rescued apple head chihuahua left. The rescued one has a gimp hind leg and is taken to the wife.

Wife needs to take Romeo's carrier apart. I hate it still being there.

If he was ready to go, then you did the kind thing by helping him. Although you might have kept him alive longer, would it have been best for him? It is a question we all struggle with, regarding both animals and humans. RIP sweet boy and my condolences to both you and your wife.

I am very sorry for what you are going through. It is very hard to lose an animal.

Default So sorry to hear about your loss.

I know its hard to lose a pet especially when they become part of the family. I lost my pet to cancer, we had to put her to sleep because it so aggressive and she was suffering. Just remember the fun times and your sorrow will be less and less.
