Default My first dog.

When I was 5 years old my Mom took me in November to pick out a puppy. I had gotten straight a's that year on my first year of kindergarden, and that was my reward. So, we went to the pound and looked at a few puppies, but I wasn't too interested in them. I wanted a poodle! They looked so cute in the pictures and I sworn that I was going to teach him every trick in the book and get posted on the telly! My Mom told me "Allison..do NOT put your hands in the cages!" But being a rebelious 5 year old, I did anyways. I saw this fuzz ball in the "To be youthinized" cage. My first thought "Oh my gosh! A poodle!" I didn't know that it was a tiny dauchend/snouser with matted hair covering her eyes. I stuck my hand in the cage to get her to come closer, and she did and licked my hand. I fell in love..So I told her that was the one I wanted and the guy who owned the pound told us that she was going to be put down the next day because she was 6 years old and had cancer. I didn't care, I wanted her.

So we adopted her, but mom told me "don't expect her to live long, she's sick" but of course I didn't listen.

12 years went down, and she was me and my mom's best friend. Everytime my mom and dad would fight, she would run into the room and hide undernethe the blanket with me and lick my cheeks when the tears would fall.

She was there when I had broken my leg, she never left my side.

We would play superheros in the back yard. I was Rainbow and she was the evil lord Blacky lol.

Then when I grew up, she bit my first boyfriend (who was a huge jerk!) and I'll always thank her for that!

She loved letting me dress her up and we would always match when we went somewhere.

and Finally, she was there for my Graduation...When she saw me on the football feild you could hear her howling (She always howled when Mom and Dad said "Howl!" and it almost brought me to tears.

Sadly..she was very old..She died at 18 by a car..But I don't think she was "accidently in the road" She was blind, deaf, and dealing with a 12 year long cancer..She died the day I moved out with Zach Scruffy was her name. She stayed with me til the time I was a kid to the time I was an adult and I thank her every second for it.

Love ya Scruffy!

Though she hasn't left us yet >.> She's..kinda sitting ontop of the tv >.> (Cremated) Lol

Aw so touching it just made me cry.I am glad you got her that day because she got to live out the rest of her life in a good home just because she had cancer did not mean she needed to be put to sleep as long as she was not in any pain or anything.

You must have been a special person to have been blessed with Scruffy in your life..It took the eyes of a child to recognize a "keeper" at first sight! What wonderful memories she gave you..
