Angry Help!

long story short. Princess who is 1 yr and 4 months, has been on raw since she came to us in Janurary with no issues. this past Sunday in training class, the trainer gave her something called dog log (puppy crack) with my permission. BIG MISTAKE!!!! now she won't touch her food.
now for the MAJOR problem. we found out that she is hypoglycemic back in the beginning of may. she almost died. she has to eat every 6 hours. the vet isn't crazy about raw diet because he dosnt know enough to make an informed decision. he is having us force feed her baby food through a syringe. I have now been able to use 1 jar of baby food (2.5 oz) mixed with 6oz ground meat (different flavors each day, but nothing she hasn't had before). I give her 1.5-2oz every 6 hours. I need help to get her back onto raw. I tried some cooked meat, but she took a few bites but won't eat any more. I have never had a dog this stubborn before (and I know chiwawa's can be stubborn.). please help.

Hi, Im sorry that happened.
I just started with Raw. So I cant be much help to you. But I'm sure there well be more experience Raw feeder here who can help you.

You can start from the begging. Feed Chicken wings for 2 weeks than add meat for another 2 weeks than liver than kidney.

My Chico is almost 5 years old. And he was eating RC for years because this is the best food they sell in saudi. Anyway i went cold turkey and fed him chicken wings for 1 week he did so well we moved on to meat and so on..

Mashallah Chico is not a picky eater so that could have helped. But say my cat is another story she is very stubborn and i have a hared time getting her off that bad food.

So maybe start again and see how it goes.

sorry I don't feed raw. Mayby some of the raw feeders will ad their advice. If your dog has hypoglycemia you are right, she needs to eat. I think you are on the right track. I would slowly add more raw back to the mince and baby food.?

How's she doing today? Any better? Please let us know! Maybe you could use a junior meat baby food? Could you cut up very small pieces from something you have left over (chicken, pork, ham, etc) and see if she'd eat cooked? Then add raw to the cooked and slowly transition her?

sorry I have not gotten back to you. we have had a very long wk. a lot has gone on since last Sunday. I called the doctor on wednsday because she still was not eating on her own. she had actually gotten to the point of running, hiding and peeing, every time she saw the food. she became scared of the meat, and of me. it didn't matter what or how I made it, she wanted NOTHING to do with it. the doctor had me stop the force feeding and check her glocuse levels and give her nurti cal every 3 hours around the clock. Thursday I called the vet back, because I could not keep her sugar up. He had me come in and pick up some Xanax to help make her relax so we could start force feeding again. Friday, I read some ware, that barley helps to maintain glocuse levels. since no matter what we did, the raw would not keep her levels up, I broke down and switched her to Wellness dry and wet. her glocuse is MUCH better even though I am still force feeding which has been much easier since she is on anxiety meds. yesterday was day #7 of her refusal to eat on her own. I decided that it was now time to get her in for a complete health check and blood work. EVERYTHING CAME BACK NORMAL, NOT EVEN A LIVER SHUNT! the vet came up with 2 conclusions.
1. there is NOTHING WRONG WITH HER. she is a normal STUBBORN chi mix.
2. he is certain she has hunting dog hypoglycemia.
with this new food, her new feeding schedule is offer food every 8 hours. if she dosnt eat, she will be force fed. I have to count every kibble in the morning and evening, and measure very carefully her wet food and record EVERYTHING. today, for the first time since this started, I got her to eat 30 kibbles (they are very small, so she didn't eat much, but I will take what I can get). I had to tease her to get her to eat them. she also took 2 licks on the syringe filled with the wet food. she will get off her anxiety meds as soon as she is eating on her own for a full wk.

As a compromise, I would try ZiwiPeak. It is an air dried raw diet, like little squares of jerky, and our dogs go mad for it. They only have it as a treat, we call it doggy heroin!
It might be easier to offer her a few squares of ZP every few hours, than raw meat, and far less messy if you are hand feeding.
As for raw foods that are extra yummy to tempt her back into fresh foods, try heart. Any variety is a big hit here, but chicken hearts are the big favourite, followed by lamb and beef, pork is not so well liked. Green tripe is very stinky and delicious if you can get hold of it. It is commonly fed to dogs in the UK and is my go to food for tempting fussy eaters.

she will not touch any of the meats you listed. not even tripe. we MUST have barley in the food because it is keeping her sugar at a much better level (raw i had to feed every 6 hours round the clock and it kept her glocuse at 60 which made her sleepy so it is to low for her optimum level. with wellness, she is able to be fed every 8 hours and it is keeping her glocuse between 80-110 whare she is back to her normal self). vet feels that what ever food is doing the BEST job at keeping her levels up is the one he wants her to stay on. our other animals are staying on raw. 1/2 hour ago, she just ate 1/4 ounce of wet off a plate for the first time since Sunday. do I wish she was on raw? yes. but I also know that their are some situations whare raw is not the best option. her glocuse level is top priority. please, don't get me wrong because I love raw.

I hope she continues to improve. It sounds like she's getting better slowly, I'll pray it keeps going that way!
