Default Primal Vs. Stella & Chewy?

Hi everyone,

I am new to the forum and have a 15 month old female Chihuahua named Edie! I started her on raw food a few months ago, she has been eating Stella & Chewy. I decided to try Primal because the store I get her food from never seems to have a good variety of meats by Stella & Chewy and I don't want her eating the same ones over and over again. She seems to like the primal, but I just want to make sure she is eating enough. She weighs about 4-4.5 pounds and usually ate 2 patties a day from stella & chewy, the primal says 2 patties a day for 5 lbs but they seem much smaller than stella & chewy patties. Are they just higher in calories?
Also, not to give TMI but her poop never smelled when she ate stella & chewy but since she's been eating primal it seems to smell the same as it did when she was eating kibble, has anyone else experienced this? I'm just curious how other people feel comparing the two brands, I'm sure I will feed her stella & chewy again at some point when I see another type of meat for her but I also want to be sure she is eating enough/good food.

Thanks!

Honestly I have not measured out mine. I give them what I think looks like a good amount and if they seem hungry I give more if they seem to be getting a little chunk I give less. From what I have learned higher energy dogs might need more than what the bag states so I am still new at this but that is what I have been doing.

I have not fed those two brands except in their freeze dried. I feed Oma's Pride

When my 6lb Chihuahua ate S&C he usually ate 1 1/2 patties once a day and had no gas, no fowl smelling poop. I recently switched him to Primal and he now eats 2-3 nuggets twice a day and has gas, smelly poop. Since he has been eating Primal he also acts like I am starving him. He will lick any carpeting, rugs and his bed if any food or treats have touched it. I switched gradually over a 2 weeks period... & I haven't had this issue when switching foods before.

How did your dog adjust to eating Primal?

It's been a few years but I know Venus would always nit-pick her Primal frozen nuggets when I bought that brand. Something about it she really didn't like. She loved Stella and Chewy's as well as Nature's Variety. I don't recall issues with poop but she's always gotten chicken wings as snacks a few times a week, and I think that helped.

I'm glad I'm not the only one! I kept feeding it to her and I guess she adjusted because she didn't have any more issues. I just was never sure if she was starving because they are smaller or she just preferred the primal because she would completely gobble it up right away and she's never been very food obsessed. I've fed her another bag of primal and stella and chewy and she's been fine now.

Thanks for your reply -- I'm glad I'm not the only one either I switched back to part-S&C part-Primal and he seems to be doing better now. His stomach wasn't taking the Primal as well as I was hoping. I think it will work better as an every now and then type food.
