Default Food for thought--just pondering on ZP

A few of us have noticed the change in ZP. It is significantly harder and darker. I am just curious about everyone's thoughts (or if anyone's even slowing down to give it thought). lol Are you worried this obvious change in product means a reduction in quality? It seems to have happened suddenly as I ordered a bag the end of December and the bag I ordered one month later at the end of January was very different, but, of course, how else would it be? Care to share thoughts?

I started going away from ZP awhile back as I noticed darker stickier poo and it was smellier too. That is when I started going true raw and to S&C. Then I found Primal and my kids went nuts. Since the change I have noticed smaller no smell firmer poo and both look great.

They get Primal in the morning and true raw in the evening unless I am being lazy then it is Primal again.

Also I never fed my hounds ZP (that would kill the bank LOL) but a high grade kibble. Since going to leaving Kibble out 24/7 but giving an evening meal of Primal or raw Sadie the 16 year old looks even better. Her coat is darker eyes clearer etc

Have you all not noticed a difference, bag to bag previously? I posted this about 3 years ago:
https://www.chihuahua-people.com/chih...p-bag-bag.html

Hope eats S&C and that is different bag to bag as well. The last two bags I received had rock hard patties where the bags previous had patties that were very crumbly. The use by dates are well into this year, so they are certainly fresh.

Since we have only fed air or freeze-dried food for about 3 years, I have grown accustomed to differences. Kibble, for Mick, was exactly the same, bag to bag. I attributed that to how that food is made.

I watch more for how they respond to the food. I would LOVE to have all of them on one food if I could. Hope does great on all S&C Rabbit, Eden and Ruby do not and require a mix of that and ZP.

I do continue to investigate and try (with Hope, introduction of something new is SLOW and painstaking) new air and freeze dried foods. We also have to keep her to cool proteins which means that with any brand she can have just 1, maybe 2 of their varieties.

That is fabulous to hear about Sadie, and I can definitely understand it. Also, you are right--Primal does not break the bank! Our Gidget eats only ZP and seems to do well on it and yet have occasional tummy issues. All other foods we try with her have some kind of issue--I can't think of at the moment because that's more my Mom's expertise, and we end up back with ZP. I'm going to suggest Primal for her.

I have noticed a change in ZP recently. I would say mine "poo" less and this started late last fall. Someone on the board mentioned it is due to a different method used to freeze dry the food. ZP claims it is actually more nutritious with their new freeze drying process. I think I read this on their Facebook page.

I truly haven't noticed a difference until now--not saying at all the difference isn't there, I just haven't noticed. I even think noticed a difference in the feel of the ZP package, but maybe I'm crazy! LOL

I think I understand what you're saying, Karen. We are dealing with raw foods that are air-dried or dehydrated. There are going to be some differences just because the original product is different, but the difference in the last bag I got was pretty big. Lulu still ate it just fine. I'll see what the next bag is like.

Karen-

Good point!

I have never noticed a difference in the bag but honestly I never paid much attention and I always rotate proteins so each protein is different. I do need to be more observent.

Glad to know this. I'll check it out.
