Question Cuddles won't eat regular raw meat

Right now, Cuddles is on Nature's Variety Instinct Raw, but she won't eat plain raw meat. I think that she finds the texture of it too chewy.

It was hard to even get her to eat the Instinct Raw, but now she loves it. Even when I switched the flavor from lamb to chicken, she stopped eating for a few days. I thought she'd love raw meat from the grocery store, but she won't eat it at all.

I tried a small piece of steak on her a few days ago just to see what she'd think of it. She tried eating it but spit it out. Today, we got the dogs chickens hearts and gizzards to see what they'd think of them. She was the only one who didn't go crazy over them. She did seem interested in them and tried eating them, but spit them out again.

It's like she's reluctant to try chewing meat.

I don't mind getting her the Instinct Raw, but I thought I'd save a lot more money if I just got the meat from the store, instead. However, she absolutely refuses to eat it.

The only thing I could think of is to grind it up for her in a food processor, but that definitely won't cut it with the bones. Plus, I want her to actually chew the bones like she's supposed to.

Nature's Variety Instinct Raw is as good as getting her regular meat, right?
How can I get her to eat store-bought meat?

My Lilo was exactly the same as Cuddles before. She's still a bit funny sometimes, but much much better. At first I had to pretty much mince the meat and mix some foods she likes with it (like plain yoghurt) and then I slowly made the pieces bigger and bigger. Pounding the meat to make it less chewy helped too. Or frying it very briefly just so the outer layer is cooked to tempt her. She slowly learned to chew it and like it.

I moved on to bones after that. Now she'll happily eat lamb ribs and chicken wings (but she HATES skin so every bit of it has to be taken off lol). I sometimes have to hold the bone for her and encourage her to chew it at the start lol, but she's getting better. I think if you keep trying, Cuddles will probably learn to like it too.

If she is only happy to eat minced food, i would check her teeth. If they are all OK then follow Camille's advice. It takes a while for some dogs to learn to chew, and they need to build up their jaw strength.

Sometimes also if they are not used to raw meat at doesn't have the same odor as the food they are used to. A homemade raw food feeder on this forum once said to barely pan sear the meat literally for a few seconds just so a bit of aroma will make it more enticing. I don't know if that's her problem with raw meat--just a suggestion.

I tried chicken with our dogs today.
The other dogs went nuts over it. One is still eating hers and absolutely loving it.

Cuddles showed tons of interest in it, but she still couldn't figure out what to do with it. Maybe when she's done with this bag of NV Instinct Raw, I'll try to get her to eat chicken.

Oh sorry, Camille, I didn't see you already suggested that.

Cuddles had some raw steak today, and she couldn't get enough of it . I probably won't be giving her steak too often once she starts eating regular raw meat on a daily basis, but it's definitely a start .

Our pug/chi Dunkin loves raw meat so much that she refused to eat her kibble today, so she also had some of the steak. She was probably the most enthusiastic eater last night.

I also heard about a store that has a ton of chicken necks and liver, so I'll have to stop there on the weekend and get some for the dogs .

Cuddles must've been watching her little brother well, because she has finally learned that she has to pull the meat off the bones . I'm not sure of how much she actually had, but it's definitely a start .

Now I just have to figure out how the heck I'm going to get them to eat liver. It was turned down by all four dogs. I'm going to try freezing it, but if that doesn't work maybe I'll try to cook it a little.
