Default Bones!

Hi

I've ran out of ZP and I'm hoping to get a free sample through soon. In the mean time I'm feeding Mylo completely raw. At the moment for his bones he has chicken wings but I was wondering if there's anything else I can give him with digestible bone? I've never seen Cornish hens about. I feed pork ribs but he doesn't really ingest the bone, he just chews on it for a while. I bought some duck legs, will he be able to eat the bone on them?

Second question. I need to find a wipe clean mat for him to eat his raw on. At the moment I use a puppy pad but I think it's confusing him. I want something bigger than a place mat or chopping board type thing. I was thinking maybe a plastic table cloth? Any ideas on what I could use and where I could find it? Thanks!

I buy mine small lamb ribs, I give them about once a week, they eat them entirely. I don't feed raw, just Ziwipeak but give them the rib bones which have some meat on them as well just for teeth care. Tesco do nice trays of small lamb rib bones cheaply enough

I prefer giving them those than chicken wings - as I have a hard time reconciling to raw chicken not spreading germs. That's just me though!

Plastic table clothes I wouldn't use, a puff of wind & they'll blow away, plus, I wouldn't want anything I could wipe clean as I feel the grime and fat will build up & up without using harsh chemicals & I wouldn't want mine laying on & eating where I'd had to use "Spray & Wipe" etc.

I would use a bath sheet/towel - that way you can get 2 full days or 4 meals out of it by folding it in half, then using the clean other half, then folding the other way & using the other sides 2 halves if that makes sense, and then simply pop in the wash. Easiest & cleanest to my mind.

I wouldn't feed too much bone though whilst you're waiting, or he could get constipation. Young lamb ribs are great, especially the cartilage at the end and they will eat the whole thing. Until the ZiwiPeak arrives you could buy a lamb's heart & cut into large chunks (you'll definitely need something to protect the floor from that) and let him have a meaty lamb shank etc.

My two get their bone from all parts of chicken, (our butcher sells chicken carcasses and necks, but we also get legs/thighs/wings from the supermarket) turkey necks, pork and lamb ribs, and rabbit. They also have pork, lamb and beef bones just to eat the meat off. Supermarkets sell poussin (tiny chickens) which would have lovely soft bones, but they are rather expensive. I have no idea what a cornish hen is either!
I feed in crates, on newspaper. You can buy oilcloth (I assume for making table cloths) in fabric shops that is heavy weight and wipe clean, by the metre.

Thanks for your responses! I've actually got a lambs heart from the butchers... He seemed to quite like it but I wasn't a fan of cutting it up! Urgh! I haven't fed any bone this week and his stools are a little loose but he has wings usually so that's why I was asking. My order from zooplus has just arrived so he'll be able to try out his bully sticks!

Ah! I think they said it was cheap in the US but then so is meat in general compared to here by the sounds of it.

What happens if he won't eat liver? He wouldn't eat it the other day so I cut it up really small and mixed it with mince that he uses
Ly gobbles in about 2 seconds and he picked every last bit out, even though I put his fish oil on top to disguise the taste coz he loves that too.

Biscuit gets his bones from everything. Beef(ribs, ox tails, feet, and what ever else I find at the butchers), chicken(legs, thighs, wings, necks, and backs), cornish hens, lamb (really tiny lamb chops are great and I just ordered a whole head from the butcher's today. ), Pork (Tail, feet, ribs, neck), goat (tail and ribs), squirrel, rabbit, quail, pheasant (coming soon), and Deer (coming soon). What ever I can get my hands on is what he will eat with or without bone.

For eating purposes, I started off with just a towel, but I have switched over to a fleece blanket (smallish baby size in a dark color so no stains). I can wash it at the end of the day either by hand or in the machine downstairs and hang it to dry and it is ready to go by morning.
