Question How to get dog to Chew

Since I have been raw feeding my dog, I have had to cut up their food since they are gulpers. I want to get them to start chewing while they are still, so I dont have to always be cutting up their food.

Yesterday I feed them their chicken cut up, but saved a big chuck to try to feed to my oldest who is 8mo. I held it in my hand and tried to hold it to make him bit off a piece. He ended up bitting my fingers. After he got a few large peice bitten off without and fingers, he went for another and pull a peice to large for him and it slipped right out of my hand, and he started choking. So im freaking out, but he was able to get it up.

I feed raw now because it is the best for them, but also for the stimulation of chewing. Although we are not chewing yet.

Tomorrow is suppose to be a bone day, and I have a small cornish hen that i cut up into so small size pieces, but im scared he might try to swallow the whole thing.

Are there any techniques to get my dog to start chewing.

Also I am still in need of a good formula on how much to be feeding my dogs. I feeding 4 oz a day to both my 8mo and 3mo old.

If your doggies are gulpers, my advice would be to start freezing their meals a day in advance. 4 ounces a day is what we feed our 5-6lb adults and they have a good lean body mass. A frozen 2 ounce piece of meat (I try to cut them into long strips, as once frozen they just have a long frozen meat stick to gnaw on; and it discourages them from swallowing it whole.) It's also important to note that it is completely normal for an enthusiastic raw fed pup to gulp their food and regurgitate it a couple times. To us humans it seems revolting I know; but pretty natural for a carnivorous beast (even a teeny tiny one hehe.) Good luck!! =D
