Default Variety in Diet Question

Hi Everyone,

So, I'm a newbie, and am planning on switching my pups to a raw diet next week (just stocking up on some food, as one of my dogs is big).

My biggest concern is that I won't be able to give them a huge variety in their diet. We live on a small Caribbean island, and don't always have much available.

Chicken parts are easy to get (local & usually free-range)...as is fish (as gross as it is, I've caught them eating needle fish and crabs on the beach, and we haven't switched to raw yet). Beef is imported Angus beef...can't get any beef organs. We have goats here, but can't seem to find any goat meat (people mostly use them as dairy goats, or for personal consumption).

I guess I'm really worried that all I will be able to find is chicken. Does anyone have any suggestions on feeding dogs when there might not be a huge variety available?

Thanks so much!

Could you use goat heart, organs? If people eat goat, then there should be some 'stuff' left over!

You will need some red meat. Chicken is fine, but I use it mainly for the bone-in meals and fill in the rest with red meats. Goat is excellent. What about sheep? Are there deer there? What about pork/pigs?

I will try to source some goat organs. And yes, I have seen plenty sheep on the island...I have never seen the meat for sale, but I will ask around at the market on Saturday.

This is going to sound terrible to most people, but another "meat" that is available, is iguana (it still bothers me that people eat it, but I've come to accept the cultural differences...people here think it's weird that my dogs come inside the house...I haven't mentioned that they sleep in our beds! ). And I've also recently heard of people raising rabbits for the meat. Would either of those be alright?

Oh, and I had read somewhere, to only do chicken for the first 2 weeks while their bodies are adjusting...does that sound right?
