Default Red eye help...?

Hey guys! I don't ask for help much but I wondered if anyone here would be able to fix the red-eye in my two of my dogs' pictures.
The fact that our house is almost always dark inside because of all the trees, combined with my not-so-good camera (and it's awful red eye flash) seems to always bring out the worst in my pets' eyes. I have two photos here, that if anyone had a better program or technique that can actually fix them and not have them look ridiculously fake I would appreciate it! Whenever I use the red eye fix on my editing software, it just makes an obnoxious large black circle. (See my own siggy for a perfect example, lol) And I can never figure out how to fix the "surrounding" areas on Zofia's and Elle's eyes especially. Group shots of my crew are lucky enough to catch but I don't like to use them for siggies or anything when the eyes are so obviously bright. I know it may be a lost cause but hopefully one of our CP artists can help me out. =) Thanks!

Aww I wish I could help. I don't have any programs though.
I tried with plain old Photobucket, but got yucky results.

Those pics are really cute, I hope someone will come to your rescue!

Aww thanks for trying, guys. =( I just need to save up for a better camera and then I won't have this problem. Does anyone have a reasonably priced cam they recommend that they DON'T have trouble using the red eye flash with? My dogs are the main thing I ever take pictures of; and though I do a lot outdoors without flash, I need something for when we're inside too.

Unfortunately most red eye correction software is not capable of correcting "pet eye." That is something you will actually need to do manually in Photoshop, which can be pretty tricky sometimes. I tried with these pictures, but since they are so small and the resolution is not the greatest, it came out very unnatural looking. There is software out there specifically designed for correcting pet eye, but I do not have any nor have I tried it before.

Maybe a little science could help out your pet eye problem, though. Human red eye occurs when the light from the flash passes through the eye and reflects off the blood vessels in the retina, making the eyes appear red in the photo. So if you're taking a picture in a dark setting, the best way to prevent red eye is to have the person that will be in the picture look at a bright light or screen, like a cell phone screen or something, making their pupils contract, therefore allowing less light into their eyes. So when the bright flash goes off, their pupils will not be dilated and less light will pass through their eyes and reduce the reflection of those blood vessels in the back! So, I assume that the cause of pet eye is probably the same cause of red eye. In that case, maybe you can try holding a flash light by the camera when you go to take a picture of your pups, and wait a few seconds with them looking up at you, so their pupils have time to contract before the big, bright flash. Worth a shot, maybe?

Thanks for the suggestions! I will definitely put them to use, as I am constantly taking pictures. Problem is I love candids most lol.
