Volunteers Nurse Rescued Dogs Back To Life
Brown County Officials Investigate Possible Puppy Mill

BROWN COUNTY, Ohio -- Rescuers are still nursing dozens of dogs back to health after they were seized from an alleged puppy mill.

Officials said the 38 dogs are being held at a secret location while police investigate their former owner.

Volunteers said the dogs are happy and healthy, but are not yet at an adoptable state.

Investigators said Humane Society officials were called to the Brown County home earlier in the week after getting a report of an injured dog.

Officials said that led them to a home filled with animals, some of them dead and all of them living in horrific conditions.

Investigators said someone would dump food and water on the floor once or twice a week.

"The floor was covered with filth, feces, debris piles; they opened the door the urine smell, the ammonia smell was overwhelming," said Bonnie Morrison, executive director of Tri-State County Animal Response Team. "This was really shocking, we even found bodies burned on the property."

Some of the bodies were even found buried in a freezer.

That's when the Tri-State CART stepped in and rescued the dogs. Organizers said a Batavia animal welfare group is assisting in the recovery effort.

Volunteers said the dogs have some health problems, but the animals should recover.

Police have not released any further information about the case.

Earlier, News 5 tried to contact the woman said to be breeding dogs at the home but got no response.

This is the website for the rescuers, if you can help, that would be fabulous, if not, at least keep these precious souls in your prayers!

I couldn't believe the nail lengths on some of them! How could they even walk?:(

I swear, people like that should be forced to endure the conditions they put their dogs in and the treatment their dogs received. I'm not by nature a vindictive person, but when I hear about mistreatment of animals (and children) I just want to do to the perpetrators what they did to those they were supposed to be responsible for, let them see what it feels like!
